Pierburg makes a high pressure pump (6.5 bar) that comes with the check valve and adapters to replace any Bosch external pump. I have used it on my 931 to replace the intank and external pump and have never run lean. Two years ago they were selling for $170 but the last time I checked, the price was about $240.

If you are doing away with the intank pump, the new pump should be mounted as close to the tank as possible. On my 931, I used the same location (with mounts) as the old external pump which was about 12" from the tank.
