I already posted this on the 911 board, but what the hell~
Listen guys- these people are allowed their opinions.
I love my 928, and I deeply distrust the 911 series cars because of the phenomenon known as trailing throttle oversteer....
Ahem....
and their backwards air-cooled engines. There's a thread in the 928 Forum that shows Mark Anderson of 928 International fame DESTROYING about 15 911's at Road Atlanta. In one memorable scene...he roars past a 911 while passing under a sign that appropriately says...
"Briggs & Stratton"
At the same time, the guys who wrote the article were, in a nutshell, stating that they didn't care for the 928's relatively high curb weight and slow-revving large displacement engine. Porsche specifically built this car this way- they knew that noise regulations in places like Switzerland and elsewhere would doom the air cooled engine's shriek, and producing high output from a small engine would be very difficult with existant fuel injection technology while still meeting emissions regulations. The answer was a large V8 engine.
-Slow revving large displacement? My '85 is 4.7 liters, which in the grand scheme of things is large, but low-reving? Hello? ALL the power is above 3500 turns on this 2-valve engine, and it revs to 6500 rpm! If you have a problem with a redline that high I might suggest the purchase of a good Japanese motorcycle!
As to the weight: That's just silliness. I weigh about 145 pounds. Put me in my 928 with a half tank of gas and the all-up weight works out to 3450 pounds. A late model 997 weighs about 3400 pounds empty.....and when his majesty Lord PorkChop the magazine writer plops his 250 pound carcass in the seat with a similar 70 pound fuel load...you come up with a figure that nearly matches the curb weight of my mom's car.

Naw - too much credit to the Rennlist ****.
I'll bet they were late in paying their annual sponsorship fees.....
This was probably in the best interest of the Rennlist community by maintaining high standards.
This never bothered me much in the first place, but, BUH BYE!

What a lot of outrage about a meaningless opinion in a limited circulation mag. Tempest in a teapot, imo. Why care, it just means more 928's available for discerning drivers?

Oh yeah thats right, the 928s are ugly, fat, and slow. This Mag is right on about those "facts", And I would like to had that the 928 is a very unconfortable car to sit in and drive all day...
