Default 84 Brakes to a 79

Greetings all, could someone tell me if the front brake calipers and rotors from a 84 928 will fit onto my 79 928? I have a chance to pick up a set from a junk yard at a pretty reasonable price.

Thanks, Mario

You would have to replace your spindles too. A better option would be to go with the much better S4/GT or even GTS brakes - they're compatable with your spindles.

You need adapters to run the S4 or later brakes. The S brakes require the S spindles.

The early brakes are on the weak side. The S brakes are a nice improvement and are more than adequate for the car. The later brakes are larger and are multi-piston. You might look at the $ for each option.

Thank you for the replys. I will plan on searching for some S4 brakes. Could you tell me what type of adapters I would need and where I could locate a set?

Thanks again,

Mario.

ANY of the Big 3 should be able to hook you up! DR @ 928 Specialists was VERY helpful when I did mine.

Are you doing both the front and rear?

Only plan on doing the front at this time (depending on cost).

Thanks for the input.

I have all the parts to update my '79 to S style and hope I will soon have the time to get this done. My '82 has the S style brakes and I really like them a lot comprared to my '79. I think this is a good way to go...even if you factor in the cost of spindels and an alignment I think you are in at a much much better price compared to the S4 update. Can you get the spindels from the junk yard also?

I'm going to put spare S4 brakes I have onto my '86 and put the '86 brakes onto the '80 ... spindles, calipers, pads swapped. Do I need anything more? Will I be able to just swap? Someone said 993 discs, is that true?
