Ketchmi, the rubber grommets on the gold shocks clearly said "BOGE", but the shock itself does not have a manufacturers name, just a part number(listed above).
I spoke to the folks at 928 specialists and they're hooking me up with a great deal on a new set of Bilstiens.
I appreciate everyones assistance greatly.

The test for failed Bilsteins (from wsm) is to fully compress the shaft, and if the shoulder near the end of the shaft DOES NOT get to ~10mm from the body of the shock, its stuffed. Down here new Bils for 928 rears list at A$640 each, while overhauling 2 units cost me half that.

My test for any failed shock is a front end that bounces up and down when ya hit a bump....
Mine did(though oddly enough the cornering of the car still seemed very, very strong), and the front units are both leaking oil. Good enough for me bro!
Thanx for the tip though. Just for spits and giggles i'll apply that test to them tommorow, and see what result i get.

My failed ones would only compress to ~25-30mm from end....and it took the overhaulers a couple of trys to get one of them correct. At the rear the lower eye is not at right angles to the body, and this makes it more difficult to get straight in the jig ....that was their story enyway.
