Default Headlights......?????

So i replaced the relay and now the headlights work too good. As soon as I turn the **** on the turn on then pop up. If I turn the **** back to driving lights only, they stay on. If I turn the car off and then turn the **** all the way off the headlights stay up and on. What's the deal? Any Ideas?

Interestingly, I noticed my 87 works the same way. Totally different from the 88. I just figured that the way they function was changed between the years?

Did you get the proper relay for it and not just a guestimated replacement. Some relays may look the same but act totatlly diferent when activated.

Correct ,check the part number on the relay. There was some bad information published by Porsche at one time.

Nope not true. My '85 keeps the light poped up and the lights off when the ignition is off. That's how I wash my light every time. I have to have the lights on then turn the ignition off. Thi is the only way the light will stay up and turned off at the same time.

Sounds normal to me, that's how you wash/service the headlights. They will retract once you turn on the ignition again. Just turn 'em off before you turn off the engine, as has been mentioned.

EDIT: Oops, just re-read the part about the headlights staying on, definitely supposed to go off & stay up!

Ok here's the deal.
On the 87 with the engine running. I turn the parking lights on, works fine. press the button for the fog lights, they come on. I turn on the headlights, they popup and come on. I shut the engine off and then turn the lights off, they stay up and stay LIT. I remove the key and they stay up and lit. I must turn the ignition on, before they recess and turn off otherwise Ican't turn them off.

On the 88 with the engine running. I turn the parking lights on, works fine. press the button for the fog lights, they come on. I turn on the headlights, they popup and come on. I shut the engine off and then turn the lights off, they stay up but SHUT OFF, I turn the ignition on and they recess.

I ordered the relay from 928 Specialists chart. Same exact one as the old one. Used to be that the headlights would pop up and then turn on. Now they are on as soon as I switch the **** before they are fully up. If I turn off the car then the lights, before, they would stay up but off, now they are up but ON. The relay must be wired different than my previous one. It was a Porsche replacement part.

That's exactly how mine operate. I'm pretty sure that's how they suppose to work. Any other way is not what Porsche intended.

Same here...that is the way they are supposed to operate. But the fact that Imo000's lights are staying on after the engine is shut off is the problem...weird at that. I would check the light brain under the dead pedal there may be a problem there.

Is there any chance there's a time-delay feature? One of the nicest features on Scorpio was the headlights staying on for 60 seconds after shutdown to light the path to the door.
