928 air filter straps, where can i buy
#2
These are available from the big three. Also, since they are the same strap that is used on the 930 and 931, they should be available from many other Porsche suppliers. If you want to get away from the stretching/cracking rubber product a good modification has been done with velcro tape. I have made a set for my 931 by using silicone vacuum tubing and modified ends off of bungie cords. The jury is still out on this adaptation.

Mucho dinero. I'm going to try and fashion a screw down system for my air box that's hopefully better than the original strap system. Mine pop all of the time and it's hard to get the box to clamp down straight.

John,
Thought that distinction belonged to duct tape? BTW my 78 5 speed has had zip ties holding the shifter cup down for 3 years while waiting for a WYAIT project.

If Porsche ones are too pricey, get some neoprene rubber stock and cut them out. I did this for my open-top filter box project. I know another guy who does that for the regular box straps.

I am going to sell my 81, so I dont want zip ties on it. I also have an 83 with good straps, so I may put the factory strap on my 81 and fab some SS straps for my 83.

Don't know what year they started with the metal buckled straps but I found stretch straps for my '78 that were for another model Porsche (911?), were real cheap and fit fine.

Use velcro. I found some electrical velcro straps, they already had rectanugular shaped rings on one end. Hook one to the rear tab, one on the front tab, pull tight and connect. They were CHEAP, packaged for bundling electrical wires (instead of zip ties I presume). Velcro is about 3/4 inch wide. I found them at Fry's Electronics, maybe Radio Shack would have them. About 10 in each pack. If you can't find them, you can make your own. Go to a fabric shop, buy some quality velcro and some D rings. Sew one D ring to a velcro strap, hook this end to rear tab. Make the strap long enough to loop thru a D ring on the front tab, cinch it tight, loop it back and connect. Works great.

Tammons,
As Steve J. said, there is a low cost alternative.
Part # is 911.110.365.01
They are for mid 70s 911 airbox, they look just like the stock ones for a 928. They are something like $11 each vs. $35-$40 each for the ones with a 928 part #. I put mine in a couple years ago and they actually fit slightly better. They hold the top of the airbox a little tighter. Hope it helps!

BTW Tammons,
Here's a pic of them. You may need to save and zoom in (not very close shot)
Again, they look exactly like the ones that came out that were original.
