Default New Stage I supercharger dyno

Well, I finally had my Murph Stage I supercharger dyno’d and I thought I’d post my results and offer some comments. Just so everyone knows – I don’t have any financial interest in Tim’s products nor have I posted this to start any flame wars among supercharger types. When I bought the kit from Tim I told him that when I’m through I’d give an honest evaluation of the product – good or bad – and so here it is:

First, let me preface these words by saying that I spent a considerable amount of time debating whether or not to go with a twin screw or a centrifugal. I thought that the twin screw for my automatic would have given me more off the line acceleration but I finally opted to go with Tim’s Stage I because it seemed to be an easier install since I didn’t have to remove the stock intake or injectors (plus I liked to look of the set-up). Since I was installing a Beta version of this kit – I think the only other version Tim had installed was on his wife’s car, there was no formal manual with lots of easy to follow along instructions. Even considering this, the install took no more than 7 hours start to finish (this includes my time to take a bunch of pictures to document the install). My overall impression is that if a manual could be put together with lots of detail the install could be done in under 5 hours. I am very pleased with the results and have been testing the car for the last couple of months. I had some initial problems with the car overheating due to one bank of fans not working – due to a problem with a bad pin in the connector to the output stage and some poorly operating fuses- but I resolved those problems and the car is running perfectly.

The dyno runs were performed on a Dastek Dynamometer by a local Porsche race shop – he tunes and races 911’s. The only problem I see with the Dastek is that it only logs data at every 500rpm and doesn’t spit out the corrected SAE factors. Given this info, I actually took measurements during my supercharger dyno run and measured temp, pressure and humidity so I could calculate the correction factors. The numbers I have for my first dyno run done in early April, I don’t have correction factors for but the day I had the dyno done it was in the high 60’s and low RH IIRC.

So here we go: Before s/c’er – at 6000rpm , HP- 283.8 uncorrected

After s/c’er – at 6000rpm, HP – 404.6 uncorrected

The morning of the s/c dyno the temp was 84.4deg, rh- 44%, Bp- 29.98”Hg Vp (approx) .54”Hg. Based on these numbers I believe the SAE correction factor should be about .999.

I was very happy with the results and the car is a blast to drive. I now need to get a g-tech and do some 0 - 60 and 1/4 mile runs.

Let me know if anyone wants to see all the before & after data and I’ll post it.

P.S. I forgot to mention that I'm running about 6 pounds of boost based on my autometer gauge readings during the dyno run.

Nice Doug!

I'll dig out the g-tech--it is somewhere in my pile of boxes. Lets get some SC runs and pictures.

I have been in the car and can say Doug real did a nice job on the install, and it runs great. Different than the 5 spd GT, but just as much fun.

Congrats Doug!! That is a record for installs, 5-7 hours to bolt on 100+HP, doesn't get any better than that!!

Chuck, I'll take some pics tomorrow in the daylight - it's already dark here in NY - and about 9:00pm. ( I assume you mean of the finished install).

Very nice. Does anyone have any #'s on the 16v stage one? I hope to install this kit on my 84 5-speed one day. I had heard that the SC mounted up front like this could cause some premature Timing Belt wear. Is there any truth to this. And before you answer please let me say. I am not wanting to start any heated debates between the diferent SC factions. I am just someone looking for a little helpfull info. So please keep it civil.
Thanks.

Fabio,

Where did you hear that? The t-belt and the SC belt are not connected in any way.
