Well the tube leads to the Alternator shroud from the front driver side fender ahead of the wheel. In there it attaches to the front (small) splash shield (on the back) with a double C clip or a "W" clip if you like. Probably whatever got caught up in your hose to shred it also ripped up your splash shield.

See my earlier post on a way to get the hose off the back of the splash shield and more firmly mounted.

Your splash shield should have fasteners around top bottom & partially up the sides.

As a side note my splash sheild looks a bit battered and abused but, is is supposed to be attached only on one side or am I missing some bolts that hold it up on the opposite side?
Other end goes to alternator:

Alan, Have exactly the same idea re mounting the cooling tube and air sensor! The splash shield mounting is just wrong and bound to end in tears, as well as tears.....dont thinK my 83 has the same fender brace, but I will make up something if I have to. My old tube was all frayed and dragging string on the the ground - found some 57mm black rubberised stuff for ~ $A10/mt. My wrench uses aircraft quality double skinned tube on 911s at $A75/18" !!!

The alternator must be pretty tough, mine has been without ducting since I bought the car nearly 50k miles ago (driven all weather in the UK). I know I need to replace the ducting, it's on my list of jobs...

Is that what that hose is for?

Mine was dragging when I brought it home and I pulled it out.

Really nice pix by the way.

This forum is awesome. I can't imagine getting so many things done on my new shark without it.

Dave:
Glad I'm not the only one with nasty gouges on those brackets.

Come on now.... we all know that "all weather" means all the weather that there is in the UK: fog, mist, rain, and cool overcast...
