fuse/relay problem
I noticed today that my OB was running a little warmer than normal, so I checked under the hood and found the electric fan never came on. When I checked the fuse (Fuse 16), it looked melted a bit at the top. When I touched the relay (XVIII), it felt warm to the touch.
I replaced the fuse and the fan is back running again.
Is it normal for the relay to get warm? And what do you think could have caused the fuse to melt at the tip? I haven't done anything recently to the fan. I replaced the original electric fan with an aftermarket more then a year ago and everthing was working fine until today. The last thing I need if for her to decide to burn up on me...
Thanks,
Brian

What is the amp draw of that fan? Is it greater than the fuse or relay rating... or very close to it? Even if you have plenty of margin with respect to current ratings, a bad connection will heat up, making any corrosion present get worse at an increasing rate...

Did check mine today and found one of these
After seeing this fuse it's timee to check the relay also! What's the last time you checked yours?

Not sure what I did with the instruction sheet. I installed a Hayden Rapid-Cool. I took the recommendation of DR and Wally P from the Nichols site. Wired it using the same switch and plug from the original fan.
I have the old style bullet fuses. The plastic on the top of the fuse looks like it melted just enough to keep the metal in the fuse from making contact with the connector. I'm going to order a new relay on Monday and change that out as well as the new fuse.
