Saw this on my daily browse of the ads on Cars.com. No affiliation. Thought it might make a good track car for someone.

IMHO, an S4 could be eligible to track cars, if it is manual and has no sunroof. It seems already difficult to find one like that even in europe!
moreover, i'm reluctant to sacrify a 928 with a beautiful interior. It should be good mechanics, poor interior! And certainly it is still more difficult to find.
I know a GT91 which should be eligible, but late models, with the computer and catalysator are not the best to make him a track car.
So it seems to be a "headache" to fond the good one.

I recognize that nobody does it, but what makes racing an auto undesirable? It seems like most of the new paddle-shifters are really autos dressed up as manuals. Other threads claim that the auto box in the 928 is more robust than the manual gearbox...

actually, you could, but the auto would not really hold up for racing. plus, at the edge, unpredictable downshifts and not being at the optimal power points would loose time on the track. be intersting to see a real attempt to race an auto to see how robust the auto in a 928 is.
by the way, the Holbert car does have a price, and its not $9288, its 92,888
call it sentimental value!

Hmm. Someone posted a car recently with a GTAR trans, which iirc mean GT Automatic Race or something, so it has been done. Wasn't someone in Excellence racing an auto as well? Personally, I prefer rowing my own gears, even in Chicago traffic.
