Default Option Code "CO2"

928 enthusiasts... and those in the know... if you can help me by explaining the listed option code "CO2" I would appreciate it. My 86.5 has some of what I'd assume... to be "optional" equipment, such as electric sunroof, leather console, dash, headliner, and door panels, but the only listed "option"...is the aforementioned "CO2"...what does this mean ??? Car is an automatic transmissioned, with a beautiful black exterior, black leather interior, but could be a bit of a "plain jane", with only the "CO2" listed under" options" on the label under the hatch carpet ...Any info would be appreciated.

Jeff;

The last three 85-86 928's I've owned had either only a C02 or a C03 and that's it. Even though they had many other options they were far from plain-jane.
Must be a mid eighties thing.

Thanks Scott....I "thought" there must be something more, than a "Catalyst Equipped" option with this car, but the only other reason I could think of why more optional equipment was not listed waas if it had "all options"..and I don't think that is the case...I wonder if I pony up the $30 or so, whether Porsche will check the VIN number and give me a complete accounting of the cars manufacturing history. I think there is a place where such an "as built" description can be obtained by submitting the cars VIN and the required cash, to Porsche.

CO2 = 48 state emisions
CO3 = California emissions (car was built to be sold in CA)

You can call 1-800-PORSCHE and get the option codes, engine/trans codes, in service date.

If you call a dealer's service department they can give you any warranty history (provided they want to.....). Note that since Porsche changed operating systems they sometimes can only give you numbers for repairs performed that they can no longer interpret.

Chuck...
I've got the label from the cars rear hatch that includes the VIN, engine / transmission codes, Paint code, and Option codes. Isn't that the same info I can get by calling 1-800-PORSCHE ? Don't know, thats why I'm asking...If they would provide more info thats on the vehicle identification label by calling...why would anyone pay the fee for a vehicles "as built" history from the factory ?
BTW...I looked at the pics in your sig...you're a lucky man !

Hey Jeff,

Thanks! Right place right time on the cars...

Yes, that is exactly the same info they would give you. I had to call on my black GTS as the selling dealer (or PDI) did not put the sticker where its supposed to go.

I take it that the C00 on my Japanese-spec car is the ROW emissions? It did have cats, BTW.

C00 is German specs. Cats were standard in Germany at the time.

Does your car have VIN in normal ROW range or Japanise 9xxx range? I would expect it to be in normal range.

I paid Porsche about $50 for the "birth certificate" on my car...6 years ago. I've heard that it's more now...closer to a $100. It really didn't provide much information that I didn't already have from the in-car sticker though.

Thanks. It seems in later years many cars which ended up in Japan were normal ROW specs and had some Cxx country code instead of Japanise C08 (LHD) or C18 (RHD). After rest of the ROW got cats, difference between Japan and ROW was minimal, mainly cat temp monitoring system and wheel arch extensions. This made it easier to get ROW's into Japanise market. Its very likely number of C08 and C18 cars made went down a lot even though number of cars sold might have stayed up.
