quick odo gear question
I just replaced my odo gear, the old one was inop and gummy. I thought I would be able to manually rotate the new gear installed to see if it is working correctly but I'm surprised that I'm unable to.
Does this sound right? I'm wondering if there is something else wrong...possibly causing my old one to fail.

Dave,
There should be a complete pictoral, near step by step, in the archives.
Failing that it should have a link to the providers site. I could be wrong but I think it was our Vegas Baby representative. If it wasn't he still has some good stuff on his site.
Those old gears are pretty brittle...
The "clear button' gives you quite a mechanical advantage as opposed -no pun intended- to using your thumb.

Well, I got the pod all back together and as I suspected, the odo is still not incrementing. I guess I'll have another go at it tomorrow. I just hope I didn't trash the new gear if the works are bound up.
The funny thing is I have the car registered as a collector car driven less than 5000 mi/yr. As such, to pass inspection, the only thing they check for operation is the odo(the only thing not working!).

Yes, it's possible there are. When I changed the one in my I had those little things everywhere it seemed. It took a good cleaning job to get them all out. Make sure they are out and then trouble shoot from there.

Did you inspect the new odo gear itself??
BTDT...
I bought a couple recently that were junk; poor moldings and irregular teeth. I had spent about 1/2 hour trying to clean it up enough to get it to mesh correctly.
Try Rennbay.com for a good quality gear.

Dave;
The other problems I've had were that the electric motor (which drives the gears) had seized. Had to unsloder it, work it loose, reattach.
