Sounds like it was a good thing to dig back in and put it back in. i wonder if the spring would actually eat or deform the plastic pad separating the sensor connection, of course, its a pretty thick washer, .090" or something, so the belt tension would be more reliant on a longer adjustment distance, and of course, if the spring deformed the plastic, maybe it could mess with the tension settings. I bet it would have been ok, but im glad i didnt read your post after i put it all together, then i would definitely had to do the whole job again. NOT FUN!

its all together, calabrated my small drill bit hole in the bottom of the passenger cam belt cover to check tension matched to the Kempf tool settings.
put a stethascop on the pump again, and it is much quieter, but you know, it still makes a loud low frequency rattle at the 3000rpm range. Much much lower than my old pump. i bet the old pump was fine, but the noise was pretty scarry sounding with a scope. (several folks listened to it and said, "yank it, the bearing is toast")

now, if those cam spockets will hang in there for another few races, and Stan figures out if the 85 cams reground, can work in the S4 engine.
Actually, i should change 3 of the cams that are the same. interestingly, the only cam that is still in good shape is the one that would have to be modified. (driver exhaust cam)

The reduction in length will allow the belt to loosen, but with the spring now in contact with the elctrical connector for the tension light, you'd never see the loose belt warning. Good idea putting it back in there, IMHO.

Keep up the good work!
