I'm in the "less to do" camp on this--the less my little brain has to do, the better.

The article on lines through the turn is in the July '05 SportsCar issue (SCCA member mag). The testing was done on an oval with two 180-degree turns. Their data showed the slow in, fast out line to have the highest exit speed and the slowest lap time. The trail braking line had the highest minimum speed in the turn. And the inside radius line, amazingly enough, had lap times virtually identical to the trail braking line.

YMMV, especially on different types of turns.

Have you ever seen this quote?

I will say one thing. It is amazing how many drivers, even at the
Formula One level, think that the brakes are for slowing the car down.
-Mario Andretti

Joe -
Thanks for this advice Maybe you can talk us through the technique you applied here: Turn 2 @ Laguna (2 MB)

Bring Rons car and we will see who is following who. And im not bringing those 3 second a lap slower used garbage hoosiers again. (the ones i used at Road America, and a couple of laguna events until i got out of tire quality denial)

DOM or equiv will be brought!

Here is my thoughts on the trash can tires. They are great for practice or messing around, however, when you spent $5000.00 plus (airline, hotel, time, car transport, rental car, entry fees, and car prep) to get there. When the games began I will use the best I can get my hands on.

There is no excuse, just next time I will do different, right!

I just never thought there was EVER that much of a difference. i was very lucky with the few sets i was cycling through. that set at RA was its debut, and i should have just stayed on the toyos because they felt good.
After the next two wasted races, that were also important, but closer (60 miles vs 3000miles away) i finally realized that i really wasted those events where i really wanted to run fast, with the ??? used stuff. THEN, i thought back of Road america, where i wanted to run that 2:30 ish. then, i could just kick my self for all that effort and money (and the bottle of DOM) kind of wasted on some crappy 3 second slower hoosiers!!!!!!. (ran 3 seconds slower at laguna, 2 events in a row before i got the hint!, then the times came right back to my old times and some even faster!)
Yes, learned my lesson. in those big events, especially the ones that matter, never again!!!!!!!!!

john, as far as challenge, Doesnt the word " race" mean challenge?

by the way, dont the east coasters owe usa trip out to Laguna or Infinion this year or next???????? If i could do it, you guys from the east CERTAINLY can do it.

You know Dennis, the original front splitter is out there in the sand somewhere at Buttonwillow...

Nice to see the monster out there. Still sounds good. Give it some stick and crush the 1:49 at Laguna; it's got time left, trust me ;-)

I would love to run on the West Coast! Think RA is a bit more "central" than either coast. How about running at Lime Rock, my home track

I always see a race as the unspoken challenge, but that's just me.
Maybe next year I can make it a bit more west, but RA would be most appealing for 2006. A track we all have run for a weekend or two, but not "mastered" to a degree.

You may not like the guns I bring to the race, I mean challenge
