I have tested my new analog clock (P/N 928 641 701 05 70B) using my car battery. Male connector has room for 4 pins but has only 3 - seems normal for up to 1989 MY; 1990+ wiring diagrams show 4 pins and 4 wires terminated at the clock). Light works fine. But clock has no setting function (+ and - buttons do not respond). In one polarity there is not clock response (just like with the digital clock). With polarity reversed, clock clicks one step per second - "minute" hand moves one increment/second but counter-clockwise.
Is there some step I am missing or the clock is kaput!

No, Oz clocks just have the 6 at the top. Its the Arabic clocks that go anti-clock, as the writing goes

Hi Bill,
I did try all options of battery hook-up. It either does nothing in one polatiry (and I did wait for > 1 min), or counts backwards in another. Also, time setting buttons do not respond (I expected them hands to move when "-" or "+" is depressed. It is disappointing since clock was never used, even if it is 5 years old or so (based on the color and the shape of the box and labels). E-bay Seller keeps quiet so far.

Ok, I've figured this out.

Cut a hole in the front of your cassette storage space. Mount the clock in there and run the proper wiring to it. Put a nice mirror in the spot where the clock is supposed to go and aim it at the clock from the driver's position. Should be accurate from that point on.

If you don't want to do that, shoot the guy who sold it to you if he doesn't give your money back!

Check in the 928 Int'l catalogue (no, this is not a shameless plug!) as there is a little note in there on how to make the proper connections to the analog clock. I did that & mine works fine!

I have replaced the OE digital clock in my '88 with a later model
analog. It needs a specific connector, available from Audi. Part number
is: 000-979-108 Wire Set ($5.40).

I also did a writeup of how to install, etc. which I've been notified
recently is on John Pirtle's web page. IF you can't find it, contact me
directly and I'll try to dig it up. Open up your check book to buy the GTS
type clock!!!!
