I have a problem with two small hoses connecting to the thermostat house.
They keep sliding off when it is hot outside after shutting down the engine.
Seems like the pressure is getting high enough to make that happen?
Have happend a couple of times now that there is a puddle of coolant in front of the car when it has been parked for some time after driving, and it is really annoying.
First time it was the medium thickness hose and latest it is the thinnest hose popping off.
I have tightened the clamps as hard as possible now and it still does it.
Can it be that the thermostat hosing pipes that the hoses connects to now are to slippery after having everything powder coated?
All hoses are brand new.

Try buying new clamps. Push the hose as far as you can onto the fitting and get the clamp nice and tight. I though each of the fitting had a slightly flared end so you can clamp next to that so it won't slip? Make sure the fitting and hose are almost dry where they are going to make contact.

Took the reservoir cap from my -81 yesterday, which is brand new and it made no difference.
Clamps also new, maybe I need to rough the pipes surface a bit with something?
They are very smooth an slippery, and yes there is flares on the outer edges.
One would think they should stop the hose from sliding off with a tight clamp inside of it.
Cheers/Peter

Powder coating can sometimes cause the behavior you describe. Usually on the elbow from the t-stat housing though. If all else is well, you can roughen up the surface a bit to allow the hose to grip better. New clamps are a good idea too. Besides old crufty clamps on a powdered intake look shabby

I had the same problem after I powdercoated my bypass etc.
Remove the hose and take a piece of sandpaper and rough up the connector area hidden by the hose, you should then be good to go.

Ken

Hi Just a thought have the hoses your talking about been exposed to to oil ?
Like did a head gasket let go and let oil mix with the coolant? or did oil spill onto the coolant hose?
If any of this has happened the best thing to do is replace any and all hoses, the oil wil get into the rubber and make it soft and slippery, then you might be able to get the hose onto its connection, but when it gets hot it will slide out from under its clamp, a new hose will have a grippy sealing surface both on the inside and the outside, goodluck, Stan

Hi Stan,
no oil and brand new hoses, looks like they sit firm now after the sand paper treatment of the thermostat house tubes powder coating.
It is a very hard and smoth surface after the coating and it shows that there is good practice to rough hose surfaces up a little afterwards.
Two days of driving and so far so good...

Peter, Did roughing up the pipe surface ultimately solve your problem? I have a friend who's S4 keeps popping the small hose off. Multiple new hoses and clamps installed by professionals but same problem. It seems as though the clamp keeps working itself loose.
Thanks - Bill
