Default Drove a 02' Trans Am WS6

I just got through driving my g/f's moms 02 TA WS6, a/t car. Let me just say one thing, DOES NOT COMPARE TO THE 928, at all! My 25 year old car with 160k miles on it, is alot better car, the trans am feels very heavy, gets upset in corners way to easy, the only thing it has that my 928 dosn't is horsepower, man that thing will FLY, very fast 60-100 mph, but on the same hand it gets upset too damn easy, I was very unconfordable in the driver seat, just didnt feel right. Ill stick to my worn out 928 thank you. I took the same corner( the corner has some dips in it) at the same speed in the 928 and it stuck to the road, the TA was bouncing from lane to lane, very dangerous.

Yeah... I felt that way when I rented a Mustang one time. It was very bouncy at speed. It felt very unstable compared to my 928...

No matter how much HP a live axle car has it will always suck in anything but racetrack smooth corners....good at drag racing...but thats about it!

All true, but in a straight line the WS6 is one extremely potent beast for it's price.

Big deal at the end of the day it is still a wastebasket of a car when the miles pile up.

So what isn't?

Properly maintained it will last just as long as any porsche.

There are a HELL of a lot more classic/antique TA's and Camaro's floating around than Porsches, i can tell you that much. Yes they made a hell of a lot more F bodies, but then, i reckon a hell of a lot more F bodies have been wrecked over the years too given the demographics of who buys them.

And once they turn classic they fetch damned good money if in top shape too(more than a 928 at any rate). Just look at what a pristine 1976 TA is worth nowadays.

The WS6 is inferior to the 928 in many ways, but straightline acceleration and entry cost were never among them.

I see absolutely no point in making any comparisons between these two cars. They each were designed for two completely different markets. End of discussion.

I somewhat agree with FBIII my first true ownership car was between a 99 firebird TA and my 86.5 928. They are designed for drag racing and grand touring respectively which differ greatly. The live axle is horrible for hard handling but great to reduce squatting in a drag... and I am one that just loves them turns

Has anyone attempted or better yet driven one of Renegade's 928 350 conversion? I'd love to hear about how the perform and see if it's really worth it. Having an extra 100 ponies with 100 pounds less in the front sounds like fun.

And by the way... it's alot easier to care for an old f-body as parts and information resources are so amazingly availible. Imagine if the 928 had a production run from the 50's until today and how much easier it would make our lives??? lol...

Anyway as I tell the meatheads that want to drag me... take me on anywhere other than the drag strip and I will own you... lol...

Any other opinions?

I'd like to see Porsche build anything close to the ZO6 with the same reliability, performance, and price. Heck, they cannot even come close to a base C5 or C6 Corvette all things being considered.

Even in the used market $20k buys a very nice C5 with 350hp and a dealer network that will not rape you on every service - assuming you live near one qualified to work on a Vette.

No doubt...I second that. The Chevy Corvette is alot of car for $20-30K less than a brand new 997. Its hard to beat.

Nowadays you have stock neons pulling 5 second 0-60s (srt4) for 20k less than a corvette. The car is what you make of it... and don't forget the old saying... "More luxurious than anything as fast and faster than anything as luxurious"...

Grand nationals are junk?

18 years later a perfect 1986-87 GN is worth more than the original sticker price.

Can't say that for any 928.

If you are so "GM", why come on here and make comparisons? Just buy the 76 TA or Grand National and get on with it.
