Because i also have a Porsche.
See, by not having some elitist attitude i get to enjoy fast cars of all makes and models, instead of being tied to one marque like a slave.
I can tell you this right now. My 1983 Buick T-Type turbo would smoke 98% of the porsches out there, and i got more thumbs-ups and waves driving that from other motorists and pedestrians than my 928 ever has.
Stop being a snob, it's very unnatractive. You sound like one of the 911 snobs that talk down about 928s.

I really despise threads like this. Why is anyone comparing their car to as Firebird or Corvette etc. And I'm sorry I'd be either embarrassed or afraid to admit I raced a 5.0 Mustang. A 928 IS NOT: a high schoolers 1/4 miler and will never be one. How many times on this website has someone been given pats on the back for beating some form of Detroit Iron, but when beaten the consensus and excuse offered is oh the 928 was not designed to be a 1/4 miler. YOU CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS.
However the 928 is a superlative GT car. It can cover great distances at dizzying speed, is well balanced, safe and quiet. And forme it is probably the most comfortable car to drive a great distance and then want to get back in and drive home. Try that in your Camaro, Corvette, Mustang, Subaru, etc.

"Man, talk about binary throttle response.... those Buicks are either on or off. Quick car-Terrible turbo lag."
That's true with the stock torque converter. With a 2800rpm stall aftermarket unit(which is by far the most popular size in the GN community) the lag is much less detrimental, and tremendous launches are possible staging with 14 psi of boost.
A 3" downpipe and ceramic cross-over pipe also greatly adds in spool up time, which is why they're both universally applied improvements too.
Top it off with an adj fuel press regulator, custom chip set, and a free flowing exhaust, and you have a mid 12 second car for about a $1000-1500 dollar investment.
GN/T-types are great vehicles, they just don't like the twisties.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... Hacker, very funny.
Despite all its issues... of which we know very well... pull up in a 928 and you will garner some interest or conversation. The T/A is a nice looking car but it is a T/A... and yes it will probably appreaciate in 20 years.

If you are going to bash the performance... Might as well go with looks as well... New Pontiacs, in my own opinion, are some of the ugliest cars on the road today; ESSPECIALLY the Trans Am!!! the thing looks like it has huge gaping nostrils on the hood, you half way expect snot to come flying out when they rev the engine. I don't care how fast your car is... if its ugly, its ugly.

I'm of the opinion that variety is the spice of life.
The 928 has a lot of pros. It's unique, graceful, and for a 20+ year old car can still hold its own for the most part.
But, I wouldn't mind someday owning a 930, c6, a viper, t/a 6.6, '70 big block tri-flow vette amongst a few. I'm even exited about the new shelby colby mustangs coming out in 06.
Oh well...here's to winning the lottery!!

I did NOT mean it that way!!
I had a 1970 Buick 455 gs (MONSTER) And loveed it!
My Dad just sold his 1970 FORD PINTO! FOR 4000.00
YES 4 GRAND. He paid 1100 new I think.
All Im saying is a 928 is BUILD to last 300000.
and will. And drive it like you STOLE IT everday.
I drove the 06 and that car is NUTS!, FOR 50K there is NO =. . .

Got to drive a 400 HP Viper on the autocross course at Skip Barber. A real eye opener. I can see how a supercharged S4 would have some appeal. Of course I like all sorts of cars, and some of my favorites were not all that fast in a straight line 0 to 60. All of them will easily get me arrested if I don't control my right foot, even my truck. It's a GMC Sierra, and it is easily the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned, as in no repairs ever and on the same brake pads at 80K. When I figured out I could have bought a C5 for the cost of maintaining my 2 928s, It did make me think. So little time, so many cars ...

I too have driven and owned several GM and Ford performance cars, and the bottom line is that a Porsche is much more stable of a automobile especially at speed. My 04 Cobra with 390HP and 390TQ stock, felt as if you would break the tires loose at 65 if you punched it! I always had the feeling it was too much for the car. With the 928's I since owned, they feel like freight trains at speed, super stable. We all agree its not the fastest or quickest car in stock form out there, but one of the few that was purposely built to run 150-165 for long periods comfortably. My 2 cents.

OK we are, perhaps deliberately, overlooking the fact that there is another car in the marketplace that is American Muscle and is considered to be as agile as it is potent- can you say... CTS-V ?
