GTS Fiberglass wing wanted

Uh oh. What happened to the one you bought Pete?

I'm wet sanding mine and will put it on the 78 instead (possibly). That way the holes don't matter - meaning if they line up or not.

LOL - the holes never lined up...Better Bodies first suggestion was to drill them wider on the hatch but they were way off after measuring it closely.
Then as I'm getting ready to ship it back I notice a nice 4 inch crack along the top that neither of my stepsons will admit to putting there. So I figure that crack will grow in time so I might as well cut my losses and get an original one.

I'm sorry about that Pete. I never knew the holes would be so far off the original specs on the S4. I have set mine out in the Socal sun for months to make sure all the temp induced physical changes will have occured before I paint it.

Not your fault - plus BetterBodies was willing to take it back to redrill new ones so they were top notch too. I'm more worried that the crack will continue so I'll continue searching .....

Hi Pete,
I am also changing S4 wing to GTS on mine but now I am not sure about that fiberglass wing. Do You know whether the original GTS wing installation hole pattern is the same as on the S4 or maybe different?
I am worried that there might be problems even with the OEM wing?

The S-4 wing and factory GTS wing are the SAME wing.........just sanded smooth and painted. The aftermarket fiberglass GTS wings usually are lighter weight and only some of them have the bolt hole location in the original location...... the Better Body wings they did make any attempt to have the bolts in the "right" place. Painting an S-4 wing can be problematic if it has been soaked in "armorall".

The wing that I and pete are discussiong have nothing to do with the GTS wing that 928intl sells. There is no correlation and Jim and Marks wings are very top notch.

Pete, The studs on my Jacquemond Aerodyne wing were off a little also. That and the bases were to short, so the top of the rear wiper arm would scrape under the wing. Jacqumond's responce was to bend the wiper arm, but that was of no real help. I had to pull the mounting bolts/studs, build up the bases another 5-10 mm, and then re-install the studs.
I gues when it comes to fiberglass, cross your fingers.
Cheers,
Mike

Thanks for the clarification. Jim, isn't GTS wing at a slightly steeper angle? I recall reading that somwhere here. What about 928Intl GTS fiberglass wing bolt hole location, relative to the original location?

Has anyone ever put a wing further up the window like some Lotus Espri's I've seen? I'm not saying this would look very good, just curious if anybody tried this.

Same angle, same wing ,same rear hatch ! We try to keep the holes in the original location especially when the fiberglass wing is being mounted to an 87 > . But typically the holes need to be adjusted a bit. And I would agree that in general fiberglass parts just do not have the same tolerances as Porsche parts. Of course the Porsche wing is about a $1,000 part !
