Just got my key back here in Holland from Australia from keys4classics.com. I sent them some photographs and they sent me back a new key. It fits on all the locks, even the back hood. Original Huf brand, same as the original. I got the head and keychain from England at porscheshop.co.uk. Pretty cheap with current the pound exchange rate ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I had only key with my car so I definitely needed an extra one. In my town there was no shop who could do the 45 angle cut, I would have had to post it to an expert which didn't felt too safe to me because if they loose it I had to exchange all my locks for ehm loads of money, like 1000+ euro. So have a look, old and busted on the left, new and blinking on the right!!

Even if you can't be bothered to order a key from Keys4Classics there's no reason not to take a hi-res photo.
When I ordered a key from them some years ago it took less than a week and that included the New Year.

When I had my car in Saudi, with NOBODY who could copy the key, I ordered the second through the dealer, supplying the VIn and the key number (which was on the original documents, I think owners manual), and it worked fine, still does. Just took several weeks, and wasnt cheap. Mind you, I could probably have found somebody who could have filed a new key from a bar of steel, cheaper, if I had tried.

We were talking about this last weekend. What's the cost, all I saw on the website was the blank key price.

I had Keys4Clasics cut keys for my 81 and they worked great. He has Sitka keys with a large head already on them or you can order Huf blanks that come without a head. The Huf blanks snap onto the factory heads with the crest that you can find on ebay for about 30.00. The redhead keys they cut look factory to me. They even have the Porsche logo on them. The new redheads I got even fit my gas cap. The cost for the keys came to about 50.00 each.

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

I used them also, only had one worn key with the car - they cut a new key and I have a photo file in case there is problem in the future and I need more. A really great service and it was not expensive, I don't recall the actual cost - just that it seemed pretty good considering it included shipping from Australia.

The 'Key Cap with Light' and key fob came from england at porscheshop.co.uk for 17.05 gbp and 9.68 gbp.
The key itself was of course from Keys4Classics.com and costed in total 57 usd: Decoding / 1 Huf (Porsche) key blade + shipping = 39 + 13 + 5 = US$57.00
If you order a standard metal blade (not huf) it is 13 usd cheaper. 2nd and 3rd keys are cheaper too. Here are all the details that were mailt to me:
PORSCHE 928
We make new keys by decoding an existing key (from an emailed photo)
to determine the precise cuts required, it's more reliable than from
a database or a recorded code. The latest high-technology computer
controlled equipment ensures that your new key is cut with the
greatest precision. We have a very high rate of success with our keys
working in 928 locks at the first attempt. We offer a money-back
warranty on our keys, so if our keys do not function well you can
return them for a full refund (see below for details).
KEYS CUT THE SAME CODE FOR LOCKS WITHOUT ALARM (SHORTER KEY)
1 key $39, 2 keys $63, 3 keys $85 including decoding, quality key
blanks, cutting (to the same code) with our guarantee (details
below). Post/handling is $5 per order to most destinations
(USA/Canada/UK/EU).
The above keys are high quality and similar to the originals but do
not have a Porsche name or logo; they are made in Italy by Silca.

FOR ORIGINAL PORSCHE ("Huf") KEYS (LONG AND SHORT)
We offer both the alarm (long) and non-alarm (short) key blades
(stems) without a head, these fit into the original Porsche lighted
key head (you must supply your own head). We also offer the original
Porsche ("Huf") red-head non-alarm (short) key. ADD US$13 per key to
the above prices for these original key blades and keys. (*See below
for an extra note about cutting original keys*). Yes, these keys are
genuine Porsche parts, made in Germany.

We generally cut keys within 24 hours of receiving a confirmed order
(Mon-Fri). Delivery is usually between 6 to 12 days by airmail
shipping.
SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT CUTTING ORIGINAL KEYS
We will cut original Porsche keys ONLY if your original key and
photos are good and clear enough to make decoding unequivocal. For a
very worn key, a poorly copied key, or poor photos we may cut a Silca
key first and send it for you to try BEFORE cutting original keys. In
this instance you will need to pay for the extra key. We offer a full
guarantee on cut keys, whether Silca or Porsche (Huf) brand, as below.
KEY MATERIAL
Silca keys are made of brass and original Porsche/Huf keys are steel.
Both are plated in bright nickel. Silca keys are actually gentler on
your locks, while the original steel keys will not wear so much (your
lock is taking the wear instead). **TIP** Lubricate all your locks
with a light machine oil -- liberally! Porsche locks have a problem
with dried out grease used in their original manufacture; oil will
also prolong the life of your lock.
WARRANTY
Our keys will work in your 928's ignition and door locks or return
them for a full refund.
Note that this warranty is for the 928's ignition and door locks. In
our experience the hatch/trunk lock is often gummed up by dried out
grease and may require a treatment with lots of thinning oil to get
it to work properly with a new key.
Our keys are cut on the latest high-technology computerized key
cutting equipment for precision and accuracy. We confidently
guarantee our keys and our cutting.
