"$115 is cheap. Try to get a class. He obviously didn't get a read on you. Too bad you spoke up."
There are no speed traps on Roosevelt blvd. hence the careless driving ticket. He couldn't give me a speeding ticket cause he couldn't 'prove it'.
Careless driving is a lot of points though, 3 i think, so i'll give the ticket to my local commitee man and see what he can do. He's usually quite good for that sort of thing.

"Pretty cheap for 100+ in a 45 zone."
No radar gun normy....can't ticket someone for speeding unless you can prove it. I'd think a know it all like you would be up to speed on such nuances.
"Then again, your car can magically hit 103.1 mph in a quarter due to nothing more than a pair of lightweight seats, an air pump delete, a painted airbox, and an electric fan~"
And an offroad racing exhaust, 85 headers, A/C and fan delete, 3" intake air runners, 300+lbs in weight savings, 22psi in the rears and 50 in the fronts after an extensive burnout for a good hard 1600rpm launch on 1/8th a tank of 100 octane fuel with serious advance...plus unknown mods done by the PO.
If you're going to chastise me at least get the facts straight Normy my boy.

I guess by 'Philly' you could mean Camden(****hole), NJ and get charged $170/pt/yr.

I received a verbal warning for 130+mph in a 55 in the same place I passed a cop going 135. Some poeple say admit to nothing. I admit to just about everything and I've had cops walk into court and talk the judge out of convicting me of the ticket they wrote. The one ticket I outright denied (really, I was only going 3MPH over, not 23PMH over) is the only one that led to a conviction (19 over, non-reckless).

20 over is Reckless driving? What a crock! I had heard that in Calif. RD could be charged if you were going double the speed limit.... so I decided to look it up. It seems there is no set speed at which it becomes RD:
23103. (a) Any person who drives any vehicle upon a highway in willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property is guilty of reckless driving.
From that, it seems that with a good lawyer the burden of proof on the state would be too great to ever convict. I mean, how are they going to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that you operated with "willful or wanton disregard for safety"? Yeah, I know they are all kangaroo courts now, but maybe this explains why they are usually so willing to knock it down to a simple speed infraction. Maybe 23103(a) exists only as a scare tactic, to make you think you are somehow better off copping to some heinous speeding charge?

In VA reckless is 20+ over the speed limit, over 85MPH, double the speed limit, or the officer's discretion. Chirping your inboard tire making a sharp turn can be considered reckless driving. Reckless is 6-points in VA.

"I guess you have a different scale. 3 points is an up to 14mph over ticket here I think."
I didn't get a speeding ticket...i got a careless driving ticket. Careless driving is 3pts. Reckless is a criminal offense, they lock you up when you get one of those, but i've never met anyone that got a reckless. If they don't get you on radar, VASCAR, or laser, it's always a careless driving.
I got one about 6 months ago for doing 65 on the same road i got this latest one for.
"Hell, I think 9pmh over is 2 points and that's the lowest. It's only a problem once you get to 12 points around here ( or you get on the 'rapid accumulator scale')."
I don't think there're any points assessed at all for speeding in Pa unless you're 10 over, but i'm not sure. I've never gotten an actual 'speeding' ticket.

I hate NJ...i meant philly, lol.

Dave:
Yes.
The interesting question is the behavior of the officer when he is operating above the limit. I was recently stopped in Utah and the bear had to do over 110 to catch up to me though when he did I was at or below the limit; was that "reckless and willful abandon"? The bear said 90 mph on that road was "not safe and not tolerable". How about chases by the police that end in death of innocent bystanders or drivers hit by the police or driver fleeing? Yeah, I know, collateral damage. #$%@&!@**!
Another point to remember is that (at least in California by statute) absent criminal intent there is no crime. That means exactly what it states. Think about it. Think about "instant on" radar. Think about how often you unintentionally exceed the speed limit or fail to stop before a white line in an intersection but catch yourself by glancing at your speedometer and then slowing.
As an aside; the latest news from Texas is that the limit is raised to 80 mph and from Colorado is that they have adopted the use of the same signs as Texas which simply command drivers to "Keep right except to pass". And the bears have been instructed to enforce that command by citing drivers who stay in the left lane. Times are changing....though slowly. As traffic flows better, safety increases and someone is finally realizing that.
