In MY 91 Porsche changed the shift boot design from the 'stalk shifter' to the 'fat shifter.' Add a 'fat shifter' to your short-shifter and you will experience another quantum level of improvement. I did this to my '89 GT and it's now like pushing a button rather than moving a lever.

I would love to try that but...What is a "fat shifter" and where can I get it?

Starting in MY 91: 928 424 073 04 "Head Shift Rod with Leather Bellows" (aka the "fat shifter")

Previous to MY 91: 928 424 073 03 & 01 ""Head Shift Rod with Leather Bellows" (aka the "stalk shifter")

This is the thing that slides over the (short-)shift lever i.e. the part that you actually hold in your hand.

It is one of the only useful things to buy with $100 PCA "rewards" coupon from a dealer's parts counter.

Gary Knox took my suggested addition to the short-shifter, but purchased something similar from Alan Gun Leather Accessories. Prior to SITM I checked out Gary's shark and the unit from ALGA looks close to the factory part (no, I don't know which one he ordered.) Until I do a side-by-side cannot say how close.

Cobalt, youse got one a'dem fatties in your GTS already.

Any photos? I am really curious to see this. Thanks

Thought you were talking about something totally different. I already have the fat shifter. Would like to replace it with a wood one but can't find anything I like.

You are right though, with the Devek s/s and fat shifter it reduced all that arm movement to a flick of the wrist. Not to mention the removal of the springs is key.

Yes. DEVEK does have a nice short shifter for sale. We keep a few in stock because our customers really like them.

As I suspected, the Porsche Part looks like it may be a bit shorter than the ALGA part.

I really like the old shifter. I have same as Shane but I prefer the Porsche S4 one. Damn Shane whoever replaced your dash and pod and console really did an excellent job. Must have taken them weeks
