I just got a set of Gylco main crank bearings, and was surprised to find that the nose bearing (the full circle loop bearing) has something of a lip/edge where the ends come together and form the joint. The outside is smooth, but the inside has this little edge. The vendor told me to file it down with emory cloth?!?! I got a replacement set from the same place, and it was even worse. Opinion?

If you have a 5-10x loupe, you can see if the edge can be polished with 2000 grit sandpaper. But only polish to take off any the excess metal, and not to bevel the edge of the bearing. You don't want to remove any material that might disturb the flow dynamics of the oil film between the crank and the bearing. Note the surface finish quality before any polishing, you shouldn't see any scratches and don't want visible scratches from polishing.
Fit up the bearing each half of the engine block. They should fit without any excess material above mating surfaces.
If this doesn't meet your satisfaction, consider another bearing manufacturer or supplier. Let us know what you find.
