5 speed trouble
Drove the car downtown today and on the way back car went into 5 th gear and now I cant feel anything on the shifter. It is stuck in 5th. Clutch works OK. won't shift out of 5th, the shift moves slightly burt will not engege any other gears.

maybe the rear shift rod coupler came loose. get under the car and feal the shift rod to see if it is connected to the tranny. if not, it could be the clamp on the shift rod, or an allen bolt that attaches the coupler to the tranny gear shift rod.

Same thing happened to me 3 years ago. It was the front ball cup that came off the shifter ball.
Do a search on this site and also check Nichols site for instructions. It's not hard to do but it sure is PITA.

pull up the leather shifter boot and look at the two rods move the shifter and see if the forward rod moves if so the front ball cup has popped up and off. You can coat hanger wire it on the ball to drive it home.
