not sure what he's asking/you're offering so hard to give a true opinion but I would be a bit wary considering he's mislead you on a number of points already

Are you going to do the work to fix the car yourself? The pan is a no-brainer. The cam towers can be a pain if that is the issue but doable. Complete brake job is super easy and not to bad price wise. If it is a head gasket (depending on the price) you might want to keep looking.

Sweet 84. That's how mine looked when I bought it. Absolutely beautiful.
And tires and brakes are the least of your worries. You're talking a 20 year old beast here. A fuel pump will set you back $250 and it goes north from there for other stuff. But... you won't touch the performance for at least twice what you would put into just about anything else. Throw some fresh rubber and brakes in it and drive the **** out of it.

OK, this deal aint dead yet. I contacted the PO and he is also suprised by the interpretation of the tech that did the PPI, who by the way knows the tech that did the safety for the PO and as respect for his work and vice versa. So both tech are porsche trained and know each other! One as the car pass the safety with flying colors, the other would have not passed the safety, everything comes to interpretation it seems.
Now the PO is going to bring the car back to is tech, have the engine cleaned and check to confirm the origin of the leak + do a compression test and re-examine the brakes and get the rear wiper fixed. Now this is what I call an honest man. So if the leak is not the head, I'll most likely take that sweet ride!
Thanks for your support, advice and encouragment. The other bummer for me was that after more than 1.5 year of hunting, I tought - with this one - that I had fine the one. It turn out that it may well be....

Hope it works out for you as this is a great community to be a part of, ESPECIALLY when you are not envying the rest of us that do own one of these special cars. I get almost as much enjoyment out of the people and events as I do from owning the car!

I agree with JCB and the seats are looking as if they saw a LOT of sun and water. You'd be amazed what a nice set of new wheels will do for the look of an old car.

Dan.........in '84 there was NOT a car that could touch the 928.
Tyres, brakes are regular wear items........minor cosmetic stuff for a 20 year old car, what would you expect?
8k CDN plus a set of rubber, a little brake work and rock and roll for the summer.
Even if you could buy a 300bhp chev, ford, dodge for $8k.............they're still not a Porsche!!!!

At $8K I would pass on that car and wait until you can afford a better example. Once your budget is in the $10K-$13K you will be looking at much better examples.
