The Rare 1989 928S4 Manual w/2.64 Euro Gears (pre 89' 928GT)
I am curious... how many of us are there.
The question is being asked...How rare are these 928S4's the estimate is that there are about 17 in the US, perhaps less (I know Mark Anderson has one).
Where are the rest of us? Just how rare is this 928S4?
I have car number 0087 build date June 1988

Yes, I realize that ! I am am attempting to get a count on the number of US cars that are out there. The US manual S4 is aledged to be more rare (17 or less copies made for the US) than 89GT. I am hoping to find out how many of the US spec car owners are on the list.
Yep, I have to shift sooner from 1st to second.

Pat and I were discussing this yesterday after the Heckowee tour...And I decided to look up some numbers...
835 imported to US that year...of which about 15% were 5 speeds...so ...57 documented GT's...lets do some numbers...that means 125 were 5speeds....of which we take away 57 GTs..(documented anyway..) leaves us with 68 5sp S4's...
Well..if we look at it that way....just a few more 5sp S4 vs. GTs....in all likelihood probably equal amounts..
What's interesting is that the S4 5sps were produced from June of 88 (really early) to approximatley Mar of 89....so 3/4 of the year to make 68 S4 5spds...and then they made basically the same number in 3 months...hmm......
Anyways..Pat's car is unique in itself just because it's color too..very nice shade of a gold silver (technically called Linen)...more silver in some light..more gold in others...awesome..and great to have Pat back in the 928 fold again..

It feels good to be back among my 928 brothers...really good. I have spent enough time out on the 993,996C4 and Turbo side and there just is not the same kind of family connection I have missed from my 928 family...its really different here, differnent in the most spectacular way.
The 928 is keepers and i don't expect to go back to the 911 side anytime soon but as you know I am visiting the Aston Martin (2005/6 AMV8 Vantange)clan next year. I want to keep one of each V8 in my stable.
Oh by the way, according to 928 International more than 80% of the manual shifting cars produced in 1989 were GT's.

00,
If this helps your cause, I can think of at least 6 or more 89 5spds;
Evans: samtrot (vagi** pink) 5spd
Bundys: white (IIRC) which bested my 89GT in hp on a Superflow dyno.
JJ's: Black on tan
A slate grey/linen car at SITM 2 years ago (same color as my GT)
...and a silver and another white one I considered buying here in the East.
Have you done a 928registry search?? I counted 10 5pds there and only Evans velvet (samtrot) car is listed.

Thanks Scott, I am going to look at the 928 Registry today. I am really interested in understanding just how many of these cars are really out there.
By the way... how did you know DoubleNutz = 00? Are you a Marine Aviator ?

Pat - I have an 89 5spd. Black, Tan. LSD. I always thought they were 2.54 gears not .64? 75k miles on the car. I have quite a few 88 stamped parts. But 89 say quite a few changes - thicker bolt bosses on th heads due to earlier cracking, and a few other things like the digital dash.

5 speeds had the 2.64 while the autos had the 2.54
Always good to go the the site sponsor www.928gt.com. Their tech section has all of these type of specs.
