Default 928 digital dash

I have a customers 89 928 that the digital portion of the cluster has converted itself to German.I have all the factory manuals including the supplement on the digital dash diagnosis and there is nothing on converting it from German to English. Even my contacts at two different dealers do not have anything. If someone has any information as to how I can fix the problem it would be greatly appreciated.

If you double click the left lower stalk it will go back.

Chuck,
You have a valid point. Those of us who have the digital dashes were not born knowing how to use them either AND the manuals are almost useless.
We're also responding to the fact that most Porsche dealers/mechanics don't have a clue about the 928 and we've had to become our own "experts".
I, for one, welcome you.

The double-click trick on the lower-left stalk will change the units from english to metric.

If however, you refer to the language of the text in the alpha display then you may have a very interesting situation. See

https://rennlist.com/forums/showpost...22&postcount=3

for a description. This situation is interesting because...

"The digital panel was first introduced in 1989 with “software level K18”. The dashboard language could be supplied in German, French, Italian or English and could NOT be changed but on US market cars the units of measurement could be changed from Metric to Imperial and back by selecting the appropriate display function then pulling the operating stalk twice within one second."

which would - if the above is correct - lead one to believe that your customer's dash is not the one that came with the car.

Do you know for a fact that the lever is working? Does it allow you to acess other dash features? As per the owners manual "American measure units will be changed into metric units by pulling the lever twice with in 1 second (this applies to US vehicles only)

The fact that "it converted itself to German" confirms that it's changeable. If I remember correctly you pull the lever towards you twice and it changes.

Hey, Scott - welcome!

OK, just to clarify: the issue is that the display is showing LANGUAGE attributes in German, rather than it showing UNITS in metric - correct?

You need to jump the plug next to the passenger seat. Can't remember the numbers of the points you need to jump.
This accesses the diagnostics mode of the digital display.
At a certian point you can toggle between the four available languages.

Just got back from a 800mile FL to DWF trip.
Give me 10mins to unpack the kids and I will look up the details.
It is so good to be back on broadband.
