HVAC Control Unit/Instrument Cluster - Replacement Bulb/LEDs?

Any visual references on the bulbs, Chuck?
Just hook up your wiring harness to the instrument housing whie testing. That's the probably the easiest way to do it. I put a big folded towel over the steering shaft so when I moved the instr. housing around it would not get damaged. Make sure to disconnect your neg. cable while you're messing around with the housing as well. I know you already know this but some folks may not remember. Better safe than sorry.
Check all connections and proper polarity. I'm sure if you end up pulling the trigger on the Jager Kit as well, Paul's got the std.op procedure there. He's pretty thourough.

The Jager kit is a good upgrade for the older cars, but it seems the S4/GT/GTS models have pretty good instrument illumination.

Are the 'yellow' base bulbs the same type/size as the 'blue' base bulbs?
Back from vacation so in a better position to help out.
See PET below.
16 off 928 641 982 04 are the blue backed bulbs
10 off 928 641 982 03 are the yellow backed bulbs (clear)
4 off 928 641 982 02 are the yellow backed bulbs (red )
4 off 928 641 982 01 are the black backed main illumination bulbs.
Hope this helps.
Best,
Roger

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

So the yellow base type come in clear and red? Do you know what the separate colours are used for - i.e., which indicators slots use red and which ones use white?
When you look in the back of the pod it is very clear.
We are talking about the LCD lights for the computer read out.
There are 8 at the bottom of the pod as per the picture I sent.
4 are clear with yellow bases and 4 are red with yellow bases.

So I suppose the red coloured ones are for the LED display, and the white coloured ones are for the gear selector display.
Blow up the picture and you can read the description.
The four top LCD's are white and the bottom four LCD's are red.
Which of the bulbs are you planning on changing?
It is a crap shoot whichever way you go.
The only ones that are on all the time are the LCD's and the D light.
Once you are in there you will see some discoloration from the D light due to heat build up.
I have yet to see a bulb go out on the digital setup and can't remember anyone posting about it IIRC.
So don't overdo it.
Once you have taken the pod apart it becomes very straight forward to do again on the off chance that you lose a bulb.

S4 Instrument cluster has 3 or 4 larger bulbs, referred to by 928 Intl as 900 631 019 90. Do You know what is OSRAM's equivalent to see if Your source has them?
Wouldn't #74 be too bright for instrument cluster application?
