I remember coming across a thread dealing with the painting of brake rotor centres to prevent rust. I've tried searching the obvious key words - brake, rotor, rust, paint but can't track it down and my zimmermans are starting to suffer!

Anyone remember the thread, or have a link?

Thanks guys! I have that problem with the Boxster and was wondering what to do about it. Is the heat rated paint you're talking about just engine paint?

I'm sure there were pics of someone baking on the paint in an oven? Also what are the thoughts on color? Black, silver, red?

Personally I like black or silver. I think it would be too much if they were red or another color other silver to match the rotor metal or black to match the wheel well surrounds.

Even better, we could add spinners to them, painted in colour-shifting paint and add ground effects .... ssssmokin'

I saw quite a few combinations down at SITM. Mine are silver BTW - doesn't exactly match the wheels, but it's close enough. I saw some people with their painted calipers and then they painted the hubs(hats) to match. Looked sharp. Also saw one where the calipers were yellow, but the car was red and they painted the hubs red. Looked very nice. Any engine/high temp paint should work. Make sure you prep by getting the rust off. I used steel wool. I primed them, but I've heard others just going directly to the color with good results.

I had my new discs yellow chrome treated to avoid rusty water dripping on the ally wheels.
Didn't cost much either, it can be done also on second hand discs but they nead someprep work I guess.

You know, I looked in to solving the same issue. Although never followed through and did to my own car there are some options to painting although more expensive.

One is either finding a supplier for cadmium or zinc alloy plated rotors, or taking new rotors and having a plating company perform the service. The finish is incredible. Cadmium a bit toxic though - but still offered as a corrosion prevention measure in several high tech and tight spec industries.
