I just did the Mystery oil on my car since I had a lifter that was clacking horribly. Didnt put in as much as they said to but the noise is gone and it went quickly. I am sold.

Similar noise in my 84S was resolved when I replaced TB, water pump, and TB idler bearings. I also replaced a noisy air pump that rattled like walnuts in a shaken coffee can.

Default PROBLEM FOUND!

It is "just" the alternator, whew gloomy ol heinrich had me worried! However 'just' the alternator, diagnosis, labor and all new belts everywhere except for for the TB = $820. I get it back tomorrow night.

IT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE!

Thanks for all the help, to bad I don't have the time to do it myself.

How does that sound? Unless we got a nice slapping noise from the fluid wave of gross ascites, that would be a hard diagnosis.

Well, one version of the web/wave test would have you drink a bottle of Jack, and record the sound of you peeing onto a litmus strip, into 5 gallon plastic pail.....checking for platelets and white blood cell count.....the sound you are looking for is sort of a moaning noise, the louder, the higher the likelyhood you got damaged innerds......

But that is the way they do it in the mountains, you city boys may have a more modern method.....

kaptnknemo

a "Stethoscope Auto Repair Tool" will help isolate the noise location, a must have.
