Default Bosch Hammer Replacements May Be Available

A Bosch Hammer would be nice to have but are pricey, limited in use, and hard to justify the cost. I've heard of two possible replacements but don't have detailed infomation on either.

I've heard that some Porsche specialty shops now have a new scan tool that replicates the Bosch hammer. Apparently it uses interchangable software cartridges...and it's not cheap, but not as expensive as the Hammer (but more versatile).

Also, there's a guy (Brett) on one of the 968 sites that's working on a cheaper Bosch replacement tool (laptop adapter?) but it's not ready for release and I don't know if it would be set up for the 928. If this works out it may just cost a few hundred dollars. If anyone hears more on this, it might be information worth sharing.

If you mean the "Spanner-Wrench," than that's not helping me with my current 968 electrical gremlin. If Spanner is a product, then it's new to me.

Harvey,
John Speake has designed a hammer replacement called the "Spanner". I have one and so do other Rennlisters.
IIRC it covers 968's as well.
Do a search for threads started by John.
Or just do a search for Spanner.

I'd not heard of the Spanner. I'll look into it.

He is ok, because he is on vacation. He told me he will be back on the 14th.

Henrich,

I've had my head up the skirts of the 968 working it up to as good as I can get it before hopping on. But it's no 928...handles nice and it's much newer than my '85 so it has more creature comforts.

Roger, will your Spanner work on your GTS? I heard complaints that they won't work on anything newer than 89. The one at SITM wouldn't even power up on an 88 S4. The Hammer worked fine.

I got one of the spanners from John Speake, and it works with no problem on my 1990GT.
