No need to get sideways over that. For the record and "In My Opinion"... I have to agree with Niels. the DP kit completely robbed the 928 of its characteristic beautiful lines.
DoubleNutz,

Again, opinions are fine...but I beg to differ that implying a polar bear, shopping cart, or park bench is underneath the outer shell is not bashing...now if this was the product of Porsche or other major manufacturer, I wouldn't mind as much, but let's remember that these are kits and modifications by 928 enthusiasts for 928 enthusiasts and they probably barely broke even (the majority have lost $) on the project....They deserve a little respect for their hard work AND courage...and for the record, I'm not crazy about the DP kit either, though I'm a fan of the widebodies

I own 7 Porsches, 5 of which have been heavily modified (including 3 928 widebodies) and they have taken up more than 90% of my weekends for the past 12 months, chasing electrical gremlins or performing tedious work. Point is, I'm proud of owning them and they require just as much attention (if not more) to keep in good condition as an immaculate GTS... I took them out of my signature in the past few months due to the completely unsolicited bashing. I'm hoping to list them again one day, when the streets of Rennlist get a little safer

I feel ya Tarek...I feel ya totally. However, there is no need to thrash our brethren here for voicing thier opines and forgetting three simple words or letters (IMO). We already know it's *in their opionion* and certainly not a general consencus of all encompassing facts. I voice my opinion here frequently and I don't always use those lettters and I am certain that everybody here understands it is simply that and nothing more. Must I now be compeled to write IMO now every single time I voice my opinion???

JEEESus H. CHRIST!

We need not be so **** here on this list about such matter...you know the John Stossel statement "Give Me a Break"... *Give Us all a break*... *Give IT a break.*

Tarek, FWIW, your assumption is correct: I am one of those people who thinks some cars are too good for body kits. And yes, generally, I think the 928 is one of them.

The reason is not that I've never seen a well carried out modification of a 928 (I have), and it is not because I do not realize the amazing amount of time and effort that is being put into these conversion.

The reason is pure and simple: The 928 is so damn near perfect, that (IMO) any modification stands a far better chance of ruining it than of adding anything of significant value.

To me, adding a body kit to an exotic classic (to which class I count the 928) is like trying to improve the mona lisa with a spray can. Inspite of effort and good intentions you should know, even before you start shaking the can, that most people are not going to like the result.

For some, of course, this is not the point. It's done as a hobby, for **** and giggles, or maybe it's even done in spite. It doesn't really matter since in any case it is done primarily for ones own entertainment, which is great, but doesn't - IMO - qualify for general admiration.

I hope that didn't come off sounding like an insult.

It'd be nice to know where the kit came from originally, although I appreciate it's difficult to definitively say it's a DP or a Strosek kit. Or an A.N.Other kit...

If it helps anyone in identifying the kit, it has 'AV1A' - that's a 1 as in one - embossed on the underside of the front spoiler. Could this be a model number of a kit?

The side skirts and rear spoiler are very 'straight' (which is in keeping with the age of the car - see the period AMG kits fitted to Mercedes) and a subtley curved side skirt might be more complimentary.

It has Strosek features and probably is one. DP is more extreme usually with much wider rear end etc.

AV stands for Auto Vittorio - Vittorio Strosek's company (ever seen their logo?). Not that I ever had any doubt it was a Strosek kit...

Sorry - I meant no offence! I just wanted to be sure... I know a bit about older tuned Mercs but much less about the 928.

Y'see, I've just bought this car - the one in the pic posted by Fabio421... I had an '86 S2 in Rosewood for a while but it had to be sold to pay for a new roof on the house.

Thanks to all for their contributions and patience!

You can recognize a Strosek body kit on this one:
