Question about 1983 928S (rear bumper insignia)
I am looking at a 1983 928S and found it unusual that it does not have PORSCHE embossed in the body above the rear bumper. Does this mean anything? I am considering buying so any input would be appreciated.
Thanks
Thanks

Normally it should be embossed on the bumper. Does the car have s4 style rear lights? If so the car has an aftermarket fiberglass rear bumper which allows use of the s4 lights but does not have the embossing. You can still put a sticker there and it looks good.

I'm not familiar with the S4 rear light difference. It also has a spoiler that goes over the lower part of the rear glass so it sounds like their has been some aftermarket stuff done to it.

The '83 should have the black foam spoiler. The later cars have a wing on the hatch.
The stock tail lights on an '83 are inset an inch or so while the S4 tail lights are flush with the bumper.
All stock 928s have the embossed "PORSCHE" on the rear fascia. The fascia is a soft plastic that gives under light pressure.

Porschemonkey, I strongly recommend you take the time to become intimately familiar with the 928 before you consider purchasing this car. A 928 isn't a casual purchase; you have to be a lot more knowledgeable and meticulous about evaluating the car or you could end up making a very big and expensive mistake.

911 Dave, I think you make a good point. I own a 944 and did quite a bit of research before buying.
This 928 is being sold by a friend of a friend who safetied it recently (new tires, brakes, belts etc) and he wants $5200 cdn. That like $4000 us. It looks to be in nice shape (need to confirm with my mechanic) but I couldn't believe how little he wanted. Everything works but the speedo. So I am/was tempted.
