Default Oil Pressure Gauge Readings???

Can I get a census on where my oil pressure gauge should be reading at various times/conditions??

I drove my Shark to work yesterday & on the way home while sitting in traffic at idle, I glanced at my gauges & my oil pressure gauge is reading in the 2-3 range! I almost freaked cause I cant remember it dropping that low before! I swear I try to keep up with my gauges, especially oil pressure & temp! Either my memory truly is fading as fast as my hairline or I cant keep the various cars seperate in my mind now! I just had never noticed it that low before.

Upon acceleration, the needle pegged 5 & mostly was in the 4-5 range with normal acceleration. Is that normal? Am I just being overly cautious/paniky worrying about the SITM trip being my 1st long trip in my 928. Or perhaps from sleep deprivation due to my working so much to be able to take off for the trip! My wife Pamela is going too so I think I worry more about her reaction to any road problems than the actual problem. She is good about me having the Shark, I dont want to give her reasons to want my "four tired mistress" to have to leave the household! Like being on the side of the road somewhere with serious problems due to low oil pressure.

I try to keep up with what is "normal" for my Shark & what is acceptable. I cannot remember my gauge dipping that low before, although when I thought about my 911 I had for 5 yrs, it seems like it would do that. This morning when I started her up, it pegged 5 on the gauge. After driving a few minutes & coming to a red light, it dropped to just above 2.

The only recent changes are having the AC charged up last week & the evaporator valve replaced & installing the AA chip I got from Derek(I LOVE THAT CHIP!). I couldnt imagine either of those having any effect upon my oil pressure though. THANKS for listening & for everyone's constant help & education!

WHEW~~ THANKS Ron!

I swear, in between keeping up with my work & trying to get lots of little things done on the Shark before the trip.... I am wanting to be a Good Responsible Shark owner & make sure she is in good mechanical condition before I ask her to take us three states away & back in a few days! Of course AC was not a little thing to the wifey! I guess with all the other things going on... I am starting to get a bit paranoid or buggy perhaps!

I gotta tell everyone here I am about more PSYCHED about SITM than ANY other car event I have ever been too, & that includes the 3 days last year at the Rennsport II Reunion in Daytona Beach!! I not only can't wait to meet everyone, see more Sharks than I ever thought I'd see at once, get to actually learn things in person from all of you in the know, more important to me is that the trip goes well for my wife Pamela. She is also looking forward to the trip if for no other reason than to get away. I want her to see all of those Sharks, to see the love & enthusiams of all the fellow Shark owners, & then know that no, her husband isnt the only one addicted to a 928! Hopefully, if it goes well & my Shark gets us there & back without incident, SITM just might be the catylist to ensure that my Shark has a long & happy life in the Ward household!!

Mine usually does the same, Mel (86.5). Sometimes, my oil pressure gauge bounces up and down within a range. What would cause that?

At the track mine stays to 5 but once warmed up it sits at 2 or just above when idling. Is that alright?

Under accelleration mine is pinned @ 5. cruising speeds it is at low 5. Stopped after warm/hot just over 2. This is all normal from what i've been told.

These readings are all within the normal range.

Remember that a good small block Chevy idles at 15-20 psi, runs at 45 psi when warm. Your cars are idling at 30-40 psi, running at 70-75 psi.
