EDIT: SOLVED...Go to "We have ignition thread"![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
The engine is getting fuel (we can hear the injectors and smell the gas) and turning over properly, but not starting. Andrew is running over to get a timing light so we can check for spark.
Anyone have other common issues to check for a no-start condition?
I'm on the wireless in the garage, so I'm looking for real-time comments...

Check the position sensor on the top of the bell housing at the rear of the motor. If the senor does not pick up that the flywheel is turning, I dont think it will fire. The other thing on an 85.....there is a set of ground wires at the rear of the passenger side fuel rail that are easy to loose down beind the engine. Took 2 days to find this one problem on my friends 85.

Air, Fuel, Compression, and Spark is all it takes. If you know you're getting fuel, and surely you're getting air and compression, then it's gotta be spark.
Screw the timing light - just hold on to one of the plug wires while turning it over - you'll find out if it's getting juice fast. My dad did that once to me as a kid.

Oh yea. We tested the senor by pulling it out and connecting an meter to the wires and moved a magnet from a pick up tool back of forth across it and found it to be creating a signal.

The position sensor is on and plugged in. We tried a timing light on the plug wire for cylinder one and got nothing. Same for hooking the timing light up to the coil wire on both sides. Seems like no power is getting to the wires at all.
I have a voltmeter, but I don't know where to connect it to or what to look for (or what settings to put it on). Basically I have a voltmeter but don't have a clue how to use it.
The injectors are clicking and sound like they're in a steady pattern (no irratic clicks).
Still trying...

Check continuity on coil wire. MOve it around as you do.

Coil wires actually, right?

The position sensor plugs in right beind the MAF sensor. Disonnect the plug....set your meter on the lowest voltage setting. Place the test tips from the meter... one on each connector on the plug...of course...connect it to the plug side of the senor...not the wiring harness. Have someone turn the motor over. The senor should make the meter register something..even if its a slight movement of the needle. If the meter has several settings....try them all. If you get NO reading...you may have a dead senor.
