The only thing I eat or drink in the car is sometimes coffee in the mornings. For that I have a wide-base insulated stainless mug that sits on the passenger side floor between scalding sips.

The black thing is a 2cup holder/armrest. I love it. The cupholder part slides out toward the console. The whole armrest slides on the bracket. In the pic its pushed all the way back. I wish i could tell you where it came from. But do a search of the archives here. I may have a link in another thread when this came up a couple of years ago.

I carry around a bag with an assortment of technical books. Large, heavy, softcover. I slide the passenger seat back so about a quarter inch of rail is exposed in front. Place 16oz coffee cup on rail, upright against center console and passenger seat. Place bookbag (also works with a heavy leather jacket, but not as well) firmly against the cup so it is wedged in place. I have found this holds the cup very securely, but it is important that your bag have enough weight and friction with the carpet.

The German solution is to focus on driving, not drinking... ![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
I sometimes have a bottle of water behind my seat, towards the "tunnel. Other stuff I keep behind my seat keep it from flying around. Whether this works probably depends on how tall you are...

Funny thread.
I have been meaning to make a cup holder for my 928. In the plans of designing one.....
Here's my plan:
1- Start with styrofoam master. Shape to fit near lip on center console to the lower right of stereo. Minimize volume of material.
2- Apply one layer of hand cut fiberglass to reinforce concept.
3- Spray glue custom cut leatherette, or leather to match my black console.
4- Add small set screw to fasten. Set screw might not be necessary if snug fit can be achieved - although do NOT want drink on carpet (or date's leg).
Result should be relatively compact, esthetic and a useful holder that is not too shocking to look at. I'm looking for a compact design that fits in with the center console looks.
Now that I think of it I will make one next week and post some photos for feedback. Still like to slurp down the diet coke.

I bought the folding cup holder from Paisley Group ( http://store.paisley-group.com/) and mounted it on the passenger side carpeted console cover. It's not very obtrusive, works great, is in easy reach for me. I'd highly recommend it. I did a lot of searching and trying various cup holders and this was far and away the best solution.

Here is the Double Console Cupholder thingy I mentioned.
No I don't have one.
This looks like the one I have - about the same price too - mine is very nice quality, Vinyl matches the car very well (black) - note other colours available.
Single Cupholder

Don’t put plastic in your Porsche!
I have a solution to the 928 cup holder problem. It’s made from black powder-coated aluminum and installs/removes in seconds with no tools.
For third party opinions, Rennlisters riffraff and fishman are currently using them in their 944’s. Contact me at jef@inventivaconcepts.com for more info.

Jef?,
Nice thats its removable and presumably bolts to the seat rail... but its not adjustable right? How big is the ring (diameter) and how high off the carpet is it - seems kind of low in the pic - is the intent that a bigger cup sit on the floor with the ring to stablize it? - or does the cup just suspend from the ring? Interesting alternative... Can you powder coat a range of colors? seems a white/cream one would blend well with that interior.
PS while metal can be nice and I'm sure it is very sturdy - I do have rather a lot of factory plastic in my Porsche already... I do agree some cupholders look very much out of place - but some are very good - matching perfectly stock color & texture.

Ernie,
add a "0" and multiply by pi. Then I'll think on it!
PS. K-Mart solution cost about $5.00. Works great when solo. If a co-pilot is along, he/she holds my drink and hands it to me on command!
