Default Swedish Race Car Drivers and Riding on a Cannonball

Yesterday I got an impressive demonstration about the capabilities of my car.

I let a famous (here) Swedish race car driver chauffeur me back from Capitola to my house, up Hiway 1 and across on 84. We hit up to 120 mph with the car going like on rails. We went over the hills with the PSD getting a workout. Wow, this guy knows how to drive!

We encountered Police twice at speeds way above and beyond the legal limit and did not get pulled over.

At times it was like riding on a cannonball, just a lot more comfortable. I did not ever feel unsafe, but I feared I'd have to bail somebody out of jail...

On the other hand, he could have shared a cell with Ron_H.

I used to live in Capitola and made that run every day in a 911 before there was any dividing barrier. Head on collisions were common then, and it was "interesting" to say the least. Now it is Bear Alley and not being nailed is an accomplishment, so pay yourselves on the back for your prowess. Of course you did it sans V1 contrary to all rational advice given you. Whew! Living on the edge you were.

Well, there is always room in the jail for another guest; at least I would have someone with which to speak. Food is lousy though, so go out and buy that V1 NOW. No more traffic school for you for at least another year.

You used to drive to Nicole's house every day?

Good job Nicole. Sounds like fun! It's quite a thrill to ride with an experienced driver, isn't it?

We drove through Santa Cruz before hitting Hiway 1. Basically, we skipped the part with the divider and slowed down whenever there were cars or people in sight (unless we were passing the cars).

Not me, the Swedish race car driver was... I don't have the confidence to drive quite like this myself.

I will have it before Sharktoberfest... just paid over $1k to have my Saab fixed and have to finish a few projects before I can buy more car stuff...

Yeah, no more - I wasn't enough into Valentines... (Valentine 1, that is).

I just wish it wasn't illegal to have fun like this. On the other hand, if it was legal, then we'd have people try it who shouldn't . And that would be REALLY scary.

We stopped at the General Store in San Gregorius to have some coffee. When we came back to the car, a guy commented on the nice '28 and asked, if it was an S4 or a GT. He told my Swedish driver that he had a nice car and a nice girl (that's when I concluded the guy must be drunk). He said he had an 82 5-speed that he wanted to sell for cheap. I gave him my card to email me with more info. When we left we provided a nice little sound track for him... maybe now that 82 is no longer for sale?

Get him to show you the fast line through a U-bend and I promise you'll need a psych hospital.

Well, as you might remember, the first turn he ever took in my car, we were going sideways in first gear. I was ready for the psych hospital then... Yesterday we focused more on forward motion - a lot more enjoyable for me AND my tires.

"....that's when I concluded the guy must be drunk"

I drove Hwy 17 from Santa Cruz to San Jose (winding through the mountains) often and in a rather spirited fashion. I think Nicole was a bit "younger" at that time. I did it in a '66 911 (901). What a great car for its time, including Solex carbs which DO work properly if they are setup properly.

Well, that's all from the city jail for now.

Sounds like Ron & Nicole are talking about two different roads... unless there's a new divider on 84?

Hey Nicole, Anders, next time you're up that way, try taking Pescadero road to Alpine which meets 35(Skyline). Then, if that's not adventure enough, cross straight over 35 and take Page Mill down the other side. Just don't drive beyond what you can see, as there can be some nasty surprises in store for your first time venture down Page Mill. Once you know the road it's quite a rollercoaster but if you overdrive it first time there are places where you can catch enough air to land clear off the road.

Yup! I was thinking 17 and they were thinking 84 or another road. Nicole has never been on a BAR drive through those roads. Whew! Spirited isn't the word for it. Maybe that's why no one is doing it anymore....(?)

I think there is an amendment that allows you to not say anything when it can be used against you...

And remember that it doesn't count whether you think you are driving safely - it's what the officer thinks who takes you to Ron's jail cell...

Could you carry some Porsche magazines with you so I can have them when you get here? There's not much to do in here.
