Longest period between major repairs?
What is the longest amount of time others have driven their car without the need for a major repair or down time of the car?
I just checked my service records and realized that the last major repairs I had done to the car were on October 5th of last year. The following month, in November, I had two hoses replaced - a cheap expense compared to the rest so I don't even count it. To go almost 7 months with nothing but a $15 headlight bulb go out, I'm extremely pleased. Sure I'm looking at a new steering rack in the near future and a dozen other annoying things to fix, but it's been nice to not worry about it and just enjoy driving it. If it can just make it to next year's tax refund, I might treat the car to those new rims it wants.

Joe,
Within the first four to five months of owning Rosy, I had the rack, timing belt and water pump done ( '01 ), and, baring the occational bulb, or fixture, or no-expence repair, like yours, I went until about September, '04, something like three years. Three Frenzy's, three SITM's, a real roundabout trip to a Porsche swap meet in the DC area, the only SITO event, (c'mon Jay, when's the next one? ) SEVERAL minor trips, one very fast (actual drive time ) four day 3900 mile trip to Idaho and back ( I was actually gone six days ), all with hardly any mechanical breakdowns... None I can remember, anyways!
But now, Rosy has hit me hard, has a problem I haven't yet found the cause of... Been finding various "problems", and repairing 'em as I go, but as of yet, the problem persists....

Not counting my incessant fiddling... the last time the shark scheduled its own maintenance(and was what I consider "down") was late March '04, when the air pump went out. I could have just run without the belt but didn't want to since at the time the mechanical fan was much more essential than it is now. Since I sorted out the cooling and reconditioned my battery box in September I've had no issues that interfered with using the car.

I believe its been about two years since I did the timing belt/WP change. No downtime since... She has never failed me. *knock on wood* I do however need a steering rack change and a torque tube job in the future...
