If it still works for upping idle with A/C....there shouldnt be any damaged wires? Or is that the problem - it doesnt work? My 83 has a small cover tube on the two wires going to this solenoid, but it works, so I have never had to trace where the wires go.

The other wire is a "Y" from the clutch activation signal. When the clutch is ON that valve is open. Or so it should be.

Yea, its a 5-speed car, so the wire in question goes to the ac clutch?

The wire in question should be getting the same "hot" signal as the AC clutch, yes. Does the AC clutch engage normally?

Yes. The clutch on the A/C compressor. Follow the lead from that backwards and you should find where to splice them together. Mine was just hanging down the front of the belt covers. Not sure that was stock. (Since removed)
