Default Kinesis Supercup wheel rant

Getting ready for SITM and had mounted two new tires yesterday on the rear wheels. Today I was driving home and heard a loud noise coming from the pax side rear wheel. Get home within a mile and the tire is flat. Look at the Kinesis Supercup rim and the valve stem fitting is gone! Nothing but a hole where it should be. Tire is ruined since the sidewall is a bit chewed and the danger of having it blow out one day at the sidewall, as I have seen happen to a friend, is too great to chance putting it back on. So I just wasted a bunch of $$$ because Kinesis poorly designed their valve stem!
I had another of their valve stems break on me during a tire change on the other rear wheel about a year ago. For such a expen$ive wheel one would think they would design a more robust valve stem like Fikse. Okay feel better now. Can't wait for SITM!!

Constantine,
Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Is it possible that the stem was damaged where you had teh tires replaced? (or do you do that kind of work yourself too?). as far as wheel quality/service, If you want top quality at half the weight and price, along with top notch customer service, consider www.ccwheel.com next time. No affiliation. Just a very happy customer.

Can't determine if I'll make it to SITM yet...but if I do, will look forward to seeing you there

good luck fixing this problem

Hi Tarek,

Thanks for the concern and information on the wheel company! Went back to the shop where the work was done and they will buy me a new tire and fix my wheel too! Better than I hoped for sure! The manager is a car guy too and stood behind his shop. We then talked for over an hour about car stuff, interesting how much horsepower can be gotten from Chevy Camaro engines, makes you really think about other available car options.

Do hope to see you at SITM and it was great seeing you again at Sebring!

Cheers,
Constantine

Constantine,
I second Tarek's suggestion. Go up to Daytona area and have a talk with John at CCWheel. Great product, customer service and pricing. And, no affiliation either, just a happy customer. Here are mine.

We do have a solution that will result in a more robust valve stem. If you ship the wheel to us we will enlarge the hole and use a larger valve stem. Your wheels must be several years old to be using the smaller stem. The reason for the smaller stem is because the rim manufacturer made them that way. Had the other companies that you speak of been in business back then they would have been forced to use that stem as well.

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the suggestion and pics. Your 928 looks great with the rims you've got from CCW! Certainly a good option for me especially with my track car too!

Kind regards,
Constantine

Hi Alan,

Thank you for the reply and offer! I will see what the shop did today with the wheel and I might be calling on you. You are right about the wheels being a few years old, I had to replace one of my rims and Kinesis did rework the valve stem area and the newer valve stem is bigger.

Thanks again,
Constantine
