Default Funky wiring between speakers?

I'm replacing all of my speakers and the ones in the rear seats have two connections on them to relay the signal to the speakers in the hatch. There are jumpers between the two connectors. One jumper is just a wire, but the other jumper has something on it and I don't know what it is. It looks like a small battery and has "ELKO glatt, 15 VAC, 33 uF 9U, TFZ/TM, bipolar - GPF - W.-Germany" stamped on it. I'm assuming it's to jump the ohms up since the 6.5" speakers in the seats were lower ohms than the 4" hatch speakers.

I'm putting the second set of connectors and some jumpers on the new speaker, but it's just two wires + to + and - to -. Do I need that thing between them or am I ok just relaying the signal?

I think it's ok since the new speakers can handle the same ohms but want to make sure before I kill anything.

Btw, I figured out a good way to use the original covers and part of the original speaker to mount the new one so it still has the factory look and doesn't rattle. I'll be doing the doors this weekend and see if I can do something similar there. If it works I'll post pics when I finish.

Thanks!

That's a capaciter. Possibly part of a low pass filter.

Actually it's a high pass filter, and yep you still need it. Those crummy little speakers will sound even worse if you send them a full bandwidth signal.

Could it be a Flux Capaciter? Man, maybe I can get her up to 88mph, zip back 15 years and buy a bunch of Walmart and Home Depot stock then come back and sell it all!

Thanks for the great info guys! I'll be putting the other side in tonight so I guess I'll put that thing back in there.

I've been considering the same thing. Which speakers are you going with? I've been pricing MB Quarts.

I'm not willing to spend alot so I got the Lightning Audio. I have some already in the back and they sound great. They have poly cones and the 6 1/2" are 150W max. They're about $50/pair and just the one 6 1/2" speaker I put in last night made a HUGE difference on the way into work this morning.

I got some Panasonic for the 5 1/4" door speakers and another set of the Lightning Audio for the 4" door speakers. I don't know if they'll fit yet, but they look to be low profile enough and I'm pretty sure I can get them to fit and still look stock.
