I bought my 78 because I wanted this grief. I needed a hobby.

Beneath the shifter - yup - that's two inches of mouse debris. Wires are eaten & who knows what I'll find next.

If you want a fixer-upper, be prepared for anything and everything. If you aren't looking for a long term project, think hard before making your purchase.

On the bright side, I found 5 Marks and a dime buried in nut shells and mouse crap.

I'm with ya brother. It's not the grief I dislike, because as I work on the next section of car, I learn.

It's the $ that's slowing me way down.

Y'know, when I look at that picture, I honestly cannot decide if you are an amazingly admirable person or just plain crazy!

Yeah, I'm aware of only five others with this color interior. Two are in a junkyard in South Africa. Another one's been changed over to black - the owner sent me the parts he had left when he saw I was in need.

Makes restoration... harder.

Wow - I just noticed the door panel in your Avatar. That is going to be a challenge! But something that unique does beg to be restored...

Got any more pictures?

That's why these "fixer-upper" drivers always have glitches and gremlins...

Here's a pic from the day I got it home. The car hadn't been started in 18 years. The hood and rear hatch both had been open (not wide open, but not shut) for years. The sunroof leaked and the car had sitting in the woods under an Oak tree for a couple of the 18 years.

Amazingly, it's not in as bad condition as it looks in this photo. The front seats are my biggest cosmetic problem.

Then again, the alarm system put in by a PO kinda pisses me off. You turn it on and off using the lock that's been put in the body of the car. Look just aft of the drivers door in this photo. I really hate that.

wait till you go under the hood! I recently heard porsche is no longer stocking many 928 parts in the US... it now takes weeks to get GTS breather hoses and lots of other funny looking (but important) items that go under the hood from the last warehouses in Germany... fun, fun, fun! I just hope I didn't get the last of them...

It is the propensity of rodents to chew up wiring harnesses that would ultimately bring me to my senses in contemplating such a project. Even with vehicles I drive on a regular basis, I have seen shorts due to rodent snacking.....I use traps and poison to keep the littel bastards at bay during he winter months......

You are a brave man taking this on. Buy yerself a fire extinguisher......

If it was parked not running for 18 years odds are it will be parked another 18 years........ the question is not is the glass half full or half empty but is there even a glass at all ! While nearly anything can be restored at some point you have to ask ,should it be restored. If someone were to GIVE me this car on the condition that I MUST restore it I would run away screaming. BC Davis is Ebaying his Euro 1984 and he has commented that he spent some $60,000 over 9 years as I recall his sale is still bid at less than $6,000 for a car which has had much much restoration and upgrades. Early automatic cars in running condition often sell for $2,000-3,000 dredging a dead one out of the woods ? But wait we sell parts all the parts I should be encouraging you to save this car but in all honesty we take apart many cars with far more potential than the one in question. It will be interesting and challenging to get it running but also more likely than not very expensive and once you start spending it becomes harder and harder to stop. You may have gotten a hobby I just do not think you have a car.

Randy at this point probably anywhere BUT 928 International ! As you know I am pretty up front with my opinions and tell it as it is. I am also not emotionally attached to his car.

looks even too dirty to be a race car conversion! whats the engine look like. you probably will need to take EVERYTHING apart, especially if it hasnt been run in a while. But then again, our 79 that was donated to us, only needed a timing belt and some loving care (plus clutch, master cylinder and the interior gutted due to about 1" of standing water almost everywhere, plus the mold). then, we got it running and it ran great. as a race car, it was a gem, as a street car it was an impossible project.
