Dumb newbie - do I have vinyl or leather?
My car is an 86.5 with blue interior, and the seat inserts are pinstripe velour. I assume the dash and console area is vinyl, but what about the seat bolsters? Seat backs? I'm guessing leather but I can't really tell for sure. My 911 has "partial leather", which means leather on the seat front surfaces but vinyl behind.
Also, the headliner appears to be vinyl. Did they ever make headliners in leather?
The informational sticker in the hatch area shows no options at all. I'm getting ready to detail the interior and I want to make sure I use the right stuff in the right places. Thanks in advance for any advice!`

Check, if your inside quarter panels have any visible seams - if not, they are vinyl. In such cars, the upper parts of the door panels are also vinyl. I'm not sure about the seats, though.

Nicole not so.
You need to look at the actual edges of the fabric, you need to look at the back of it. Dave your seats are very likely ;eather, though I have ONCE heard of vinyl 928 seats. One time only. Regarding other items:
dash: both sewn and non-sewn vinyl. Leather is always sewn.
quarters: both sewn and non-sewn vinyl. sometimes leather (always sewn). pattern is rough; smooth or cork in vinyl or leather
doors: usually vinyl, sometimes leather
inserts: usually leather, sometimes vinyl
centre console: sewn is leather, otherwise vinyl
pod: 99% vinyl. Not leather if not sewn. Have seen aftermarket sewn vinyl
later cars have sewn a-pillar covers (both leather and vinyl) and rear ac / cassette box / rear console
roof: sometimes leather sometimes vinyl. sunroof trim: 99% leather, 1% sometimes vinyl
aunroof panel: if yours is leather it is likely already destroyed
rear hatch pieces: either
shelves: either

OK, I took a closer look. I removed one of the rear side speakers and looked at the edge of the material - vinyl. There is a seam on the quarters though.
The dash and console definitely don't feel like leather. The door uppers could be either, but since the dash is presumable vinyl I would assume the door panels are also. The headliner feels like vinyl, but the sunroof panel feels more like leather - and is in perfect condition. The only other parts that definitely feel like leather are the steering wheel, the seat fronts, and the shift boot/****. I'm assuming that the seat backs are vinyl, like in my 911.
