Default 1990 GT A/C woes

Greetings All:

My 1990 GT had it's ac compressor ceased up and as a result, it burned out the relay that is in the ac/heating control module in the dash. The relay is soldered into the whole unit...which is about $900us. to replace new.

My questions is, has anyone gone into the control unit and replaced the relay somehow?

Thanks,

Tim

The relay can be replaced for about $4.00. Here's a picture of the replacement you can buy at Radio Shack and the pin out.

Tim:

PM me with an email address, and I can send you the writeup, with pictures, of the replacement process.

Kinda makes the cost of membership bearable, huh?
By the way, it was probably the stuck relay that burned out your compressor and not the other way round.

Look on ebay for rebuilt compressors...can be found for around $200. Factory rebuilt porsche compressors already filled with oil....complete with new clutches too...funny that the compressors were actually nippondensos or other companies that porsche just puts a sticker on & charges way more...I heard that the 90-91 dodge caravan uses the same compressor as 928's, except for its about $200 brand new!!!

Now is a good time to convert to R134 too!!
