Default UK 928 trackday

just got back from my first trackday which i shared with a great bunch of folk here in the uk. after a lot of planning the day came together and we had about 50 928s turn out at castle combe between bristol and london. also present was a biturbo AMG merc and a CSL M3 bmw along with an early 911. we couldnt have asked for better weather as you can see in the pic it was a fabulous day which really added to the atmosphere. i could just rave about the experience which im sure everyone who has been out on a track can relate to, and i recomend it if you havent already done it, what impressed me most was just the way these cars stand up to punishing treatment!! i had an absolute blast but i have to appologise for not having more pics, i was too busy either driving or yacking!! wicked cool time...

ha ha, yes pierre you are so right! ....stiffer springs, double ajusting shocks...ditch the ac... i allready have another engine and trans...

315 rubber on the rear lets you take some liberty with late breaking, whenever the back went lite they just pulled it back into line! those and the bilstein eibach combo allowed me to keep up with the more powerful cars including a few GTS.

I can confirm that Nick's car holds the road amazingly well after hitching a ride with him yesterday. In fact the only think slowing him was the Auto box and his refusal to follow the racing line (there's so much more track you could have used!)

Much fun ended after about four laps when my brake line failed, which was irritating on several levels. I was really starting to see what the strengths and weaknesses of my car were, and enjoying the process hugely. And the small detail that my track day experience cost about $150 per lap, two of which were behind a pace car used to ease track day virgins in to the experience. Final problem is my car is still at the track having found that my recovery insurance has lapsed... oh dear.

A big thank you to Richard who organised the event (although I've never seen him on Rennlist). It is truly spectacular seeing and hearing several 928s at full throttle blasting past as high speed. I would urge anyone who is contemplating organising a similar event to Just Do It!

PS - think that might be me next to Nick in the pic

paul, i had richard co-pilot for a few laps and he pointed out the lines, which was a big help cause at the time the adrenalin is going and its all happening really fast... that was jeremy who spun in front of us, by the way, and yes it was caught on camera too! i didnt click at the time untill after that you were the same paul who rebuilt your top end in the snow, nice to put a face to the name!

some attrition rates for the day:

average fuel consumption something below 10mpg; everyone used a lot of oil, but some not enough - one spun bearing (suspected); one engine failure when a shift was messed up and engine overrevved; several spins; many damged egos as the bmw whizzed around!

how can i upload a video clip, its in quicktime format?
