Drove home my 90 GT from SF yesterday. The first thing I noticed driving was it felt dead and heavy at 4K RPM's. Louis and I noticed that in the dyno chart the PO provided, 308/300,
that the lines were very squiggly starting at about 3750 R's.
The Shark is catless w/RMB and RRFR AND a powerchip. Also bad flappy.
Anyhow it just didn't feel like a GT, there was even very light pinging under load at 4k r's. Swapped 91 brains in it today and Bwaaaa, feels like a GT and runs great. I can't figure out why someone would have chipped it. The PO said he was told it was for the fuel mapping?

You're psychic?
Going to Dyno with the group on the 21st then maybe install Memorial Day W.E.
I want to do a compression check and leakdown 1st.

Good luck with the new shark!
I had a similar issue with my car when I got it at the same rpm point. Returned to a stock chipset, and no more ping. I don't think the GT's like to be chipped, just boosted.

I really haven't seen many '89 and above cars that have had luck with chips at all......especially GTs. There may be a few. '88s and below seem to respond decently, anything newer and chips seem to cause quite a few problems.

The LH is always a suspect if it has never been rebuilt or replaced. The hybrid degrades with age until the car no longer runs.
Most 89 and later cars have in tank fuel pumps. If it fails the car will still run but may ping under full load. The engine will not make full power if this happens because the dead pump blocks fuel to the main pump.
COTS (commercial off the shelf) Chips advance portions of the ignition timing map and alter the fuel map. They are meant to provide minimal perfromance increases in stock vehicles. They do not work well and may actually reduce power in cars that are not 100% or have the wrong fuel.
