Talking Nitrous install - Update - Nitrous is Ritous!

Okay, I know these questions are mostly directed to Mark Kibort's this used to be his setup which I think went to Keith W. then to Joe Serio, and now me, but I'm the 1st to go for install since Mark had it in his old race car.

So the 1st thing is to figure out where it's supposed to go in the spider.

Mark says:
I used the aux air port , normally used for AC air to the manifold . trick was making the adpatper to fit, while also stradeling the oil filler breather line.
. the spray was pointed to the middle section of the plenum so all cylinders had a even shot at the charge.

always, mount the wet system after the throttle plate.

im sure there are other places to mount, but that was the easiest.
So is this the place? It looks like the most central (read: ONLY) location for the installation. But then what do I do with the fricken hose that goes there? Heck what is that hose for anyway? Thanks in advace for the help.

yes, thats the port hole to mount the custom NOS/Fuel nosile mounting bracket to.

ask away

Ok, so then what do I do with the hose that's already mounted there? I tried looking up what that hose was, but I haven't figured it out yet. Do I just delete it? I do I re-route it somewhere else?

That port was (is) used for the AC aux air input. (makes the car rev a little faster at idle, when the AC goes on, but ive never noticed a difference in the 10 years i owned that 84 with working AC. anyway, plug the line and push it aside.

the nitros nosile will mount there and point the nosile so the NOS/fuel goes up into the plenum. (only two ways you can install, and it should be obvious) next, (or really to start) take the oil filler breather and move out of the way. You will then have to replace that breather line with a flexible tube. (any real thick rubber automotive grade tube will work) it will colapse as it goes between the NOS and fuel lines leading to the nosile. dont worry, that is just a breather line and just vent fumes .
next, mount the solinoids on the fender and one on the plastic fan shroud. (it also will be obvious, as the the lengths are different ) I thin the fuel was on the fender and the NOS was on the fan shroud. then, route the main long NOS line through a hole in the firewall or corner of the floor board, or heck, run it along the underneath of the car to where the bottle is located and drill or find a hole to push it through. I think i gave Kieth the black carpeted panel that mounted the master on switch (arming switch for the system) then, mount a switch to the dead pedal case. this way, you activate the NOS with your left foot when you are already in a gear. (reduces the risk of a hand button and forgetting to release it to shift and then BOOM) (also, sometimes you are full throttle and may not actually want the NOS to engage.)

thats all i can think of off the top of my head.

It's for the A/C - kicks up the idle when you turn the air on.

just delete it, it mounts to a little air solinoid that usually is clamped to the cross bar and has two little wires attached to it. just remove one wire and tape it, and then remove the hose from that to the intake and put in a drawer somewhere.

the hose the NOS strattles maybe the lower one as i remember and look at the picture. again, it will be obvios when you mount the nitros nosiles. I pre screw in the lower hose (NOS or fuel , i cant remember) and then mount it to the intake plenum. then , connect that oil breather line hose to the oil filler, then attach the other NOS or fuel line to the NOS fuel nosle attached to the plennum. dont forget to put in the appropriate nosile inserts. (i think i left it at a 50hp shot where fuel air mixture was set at real close to 12.5:1 when you push the button. AND it was true 50hp 50ftlbs of torque at the rears.

Thanks Mark-
I'm very excited about getting this in. I'll update and post additional questions as they creap up, but honestly, I think you just about gave me step by step instructions just now. I think I can tackle this now - not too hard.

Unfortunately, however, I'm leaving to visit my dad in Charleston, South Carolina tonight. I'll be back tomorrow evening (short trip), but I doubt I'll have time to work on it before our gathering this Sunday, so no demonstrations until out Monthly meeting in May, but I'll give rides in it for $10 for each push of the magic button.

Thanks again Mark.

you may want to put the 100hp shot in for the $10 rides!

anyway, all you really need to do is get that hose on the oil filler breather (the lower one i think) and then you are set. all it needs to do is colapes to fit between the two NOS and fuel lines. dont worry, the Porsche lines are way overkill for this purpose, as they are hard as steel and wont work for what we are doing. once you get it all together, you can see this was the ONLY way you cold use this port for the NOS sytem, and it fits and works very well. the only other way, would be to remove the spider and tap into the TB top or the adapter rubber ring that attaches the TB to the upper plennum. then, you have to cut holes, make sure they seal and it would work but it would be much more work.

I assume on the pass fuel rail, where many people put the fuel pressure guages. At least that's where I was going to do it as the fitting on the fuel line for the NOS setup appears to fit this.

from the fuel rail nut. (ive made a custom nut with the an fitting for the fuel to the NOS/fuel nosiel , with an a fuel pressure guage on it as well.)

Here's an update of the slight progress I made yesterday.

So the first thing was to pull the Aux AC thing-a-ma-jig on the body of the spider and install the nozzle. The bolts didn't quite line up for me (guess there was a little variability between cars?) but after using my drill to elongate one of the holes everything was good. For good measure I put a bit of that blue gasket sealer to make sure i wasn't losing anything.

Then i mounted the N2O solenoid. I kind of wanted to hide it, so I squeezed it in here.

Then the gas solenoid on the other side.
**********************************************
Question for Mark Kibort - Any problem with the solenoid being effectively upside down? I wouldn't think so, but thought I should ask.
**********************************************

Here's a wider view of the gas install. I had a bit of an issue with the fitting for the fuel rail as it had SAE threads rather than the 12mm 1.5 pitch threads on the rail. So I got a tap and re tapped the fitting. Now it seems to fit fine. Haven't had a chance to check for leaks yet.

Finally here's what the bay looks like.

I still need to get a new oil breather line and hook up the wiring. I've run the nitrous line back but haven't popped it into the car yet. I looked under the floormat and there's a perfect hole that goes into the "frame rail". I'll need to drill a hole on the inboard side of the rail, but am looking for a rubber grommet to make sure it's weather tight.

Haven't decided whether I'll place the bottle behind my seat in the pass footwell or in the hatch area - I know the dangers.

Pressure guage on the bottle is broken (needle came off) so I'll need to get a new one of those too. But I should have it up and running by the weekend. We'll see whose laughing then... probably me!

Make sure you don't hit that engine too hard or your rings and ring lands will be in pieces. Think I'm kidding?

Yes, your kidding. its only 50hp, not 150hp as a shot. no difference from mashing the gas vs hitting the button. its not instant, but very close to stomping on the gas. if anderson and fan at 500 at the rear wheels can mash the gas as fast as they can stomp, NOS at 350-400 at the wheels is no problem at all.

I think you are thinking about those NOS systems where there is 150-400hp added to drag engines.
