Default Buying 928S4 87` - Few problems

Hello
I have few problems with car which i want buy. Here is the link to the car
I have doubt about rear bumper, is it stock from S4?! I saw identicaly in gts?! I`m talking about this red strip on the trunk with porsche sign.
Next problem is a sunroof, this car dont have it?! I thought that every S4 had sunroof in stock, the last problem is roof antena, he also lost it or maybe didnt have?! Please help.

That is a GTS rear bumper cover. The car was either rear ended or he just backed up into something and had to replace the original or he just liked the look of the GTS rear end and added it.

1987 S4's did not have the roof antena. 87 and 88 S4's had the antena in the windshield. I think 89 was the first year for the roof antena.

I am not sure about the sun roof. I thought all S4's had one, but someone else might know better.

Looks very nice!

1) There are kits to make the bumper look "GTS". It goes on top of the original bumper. Look closely to see if it has been added or ask PPI mechanic to check it out.

2) No sunroof, to me, is a big PLUS! You could get one without the sunroof. It was difficult, but possible. Nice thing is you should gain 1-2" of headroom.

3) Antenna is in the windshield. Look for a small wire that runs up the passenger side edge, across the top and back down the middle of the glass. That's it.

Do a carfax and a PPI if you're worried about it being wrecked and a replaced roof. The PPI should be done by a 928 specialist, not just a "Porsche specialist".

Good luck!

hinchcliffe,

I just noticed that when you mentioned it. The driving lights do appear to be missing there.

HArd to see. Get under the car and look near the exhaust for any crushed pieces. See if it has new bumperette in the back. Sounds like an un cared for car. Must've been a pretty big wreck if he had to replace all of the driving lights?

How? Only get the VIN and go to porsche in poland?
How about option codes with sunroof, if it was in stock, they not noticed that in option codes, am i right?

Guy claims that is a GT version. How can i really verify that is a GT not S4? i dont see "GT" sign on the trunk. or any twin pipe. Owner also know nothing about PSD, etc.. he have the car for about one year..
Thanx for the help everybody, great forum

Depends on what type of accident, angle of impact and such. He may have had the paint guy remove the lights when he had it painted and the guy broke them or something. Never know. Check out carfax. Or give us the VIN # and someone here can run a check on it.

1989 manual with a 400? code are GT's, '90 & '91 manuals are all GT's.

if the car is really from 1990, ie vin number as : wpozzz92zLs8xxxxx. Then I can tell you that is a GT cause of manual gear box.

The 90 S4 has only automatic gearbox.

Carfax won't work on Polish cars and the light configuration is different on US and ROW cars. A 1990 928 with manual transmission is most definately a GT. Also european cars don't have the bumperettes.

Have you tried 928gt.com or 928s4vr.com. One or both have a list of options. It's also in 928intl.com's catalog. Or you could call any of the Big 3, you will need those contacts. Try the new member thread above for load of info including IIRC #'s for Big 3.
Go here: http://www.eatel.net/~dslabat/928links.htm for primer on links.

Hmm what are you mean about "400" is it option code or what?
How about codes on the engine, or gearbox which will be helpfull to identify the car. It can be true that is 90` S4 with swaped tranny?
If i get the Vin and send to U, i will get know the history of the car?
Sorry for all this silly question but i really want all and dont want any bad suprises after "shoping"
greets.
