Default ANYONE WANT TO BUY MY 84 IF I CAN'T BEAT THE DMV

If I loose my war with the DMV I will have to sell the 84S that I just bought. By now you all should know the history of this car and my troubles to register it here in NV. So...is anyone feeling brave and want to save this sweet ride from going to parts heaven, or should I say parts hell. What does 928 INt give for complete, running, near perfect cars? Don't let this car be dismantled for parts! 5K is what I have into this thing so far. 5K is what I would like to get if I have to sell.

Don't sell it!!

I know that you are likely frusterated but selling it is not the answer. It is old enough to be close to several states exempt laws and you have had other offers to help. What is the problem at this point? Are you in a hurry to have a daily or are you just mad about the situation?

Don't part it.. It's just paperwork and beurocracy that is preventing you from having things straightened out. DAMN, if my car with a "clean" title was in as good of shape as yours I would be a happy camper!!

Sorry to read about your problem. Your 84 looks nice, my first 928 was an 84 with the same interior.

You would do well to get $5k if the car had a clean title. You may think parting a car out is easy, but unless you have the marketing and reputation it isn't that easy. Have you checked out Arizona's policy for your title? If you could get a salvage title in AZ your 84 could survive.

NADA has a classics section. Take a look at NADA.com

NADA lists your cars value at:

April 21, 2005 print this vehicle report
Original MSRP: $44,000

Low Retail Average Retail High Retail

$8,150 $9,950 $12,000

Once again that is retail, they do not list consumer pricing.

It's just paperwork. "IF" you find a state that will take it you get a clean title. Take that to the next state. I have been following this as others have and you have had offers. It is of coarse going to cost you more $ in gas (go and drive it on temp tags) or vacation time to get it to where it needs to go (enjoy the drive and curves up the CA and OR coast) but if you wanna keep it the time and money is irrelevant.

It really depends on you and what you wanna do.

I might take your offer. Are you close to the Canadian border (ontario or quebec)?
I will check the Quebec car office about the procedure on a "for scrap" car and see what they say, but I believe it is possible here. What needs to be done on it, if any?

edit : ok NV, I'll check the map!

edit2 : Are those pics of the car as it is now?
What is the milage and maintenance scedule at (TB,WP etc..)?

Thanks

Daniel

You could come up and register it in WA state. I have registered 3 cars here and only once was I asked for I.D (I used my Canadian British Colombia license). The DMV will even accept a P.O Box as a address or you could use my address if you wanted.

Like I told you before, Jim, Washington State is the place. My F-I-L does this a lot, even registered a motor home that he pulled out of the Arizona desert that some crack heads had parked on his ranch. After he fixed the bullet holes, of course.

Don't part or sell the car. remember, I have seen it with my own two eyes and have heard it with my own two ears. It is a sweet ride. It might as well be a new car. You drove it all the way across country with no problems except for a ticket ... what other 20+ year old car can you do that with.

Cheers,

Dave

G-man,

Don't give up. It's amazing what persistence in the face of bureaucracy can accomplish. Excruciatingly POLITE persistence. Don't let 'em hear your teeth grind. A few "I know it's not your fault's" help when your frustration has crept in to your voice.

It would help if you would post scanned images of the front and back of the Florida COD so those who want to help (or buy) can show their local minions. As I wrote in another thread, my local Highway Patrol Salvage Vehicle Station swears they can do it. BUT I wouldn't bet on it without showing them the COD.

Good Luck and Don't Give Up The Ship!

I'm taking the image you sent me over to the Tenn folks on Monday to get a reading. Then I'll fire it up to my F-I-L in the People's Democratic Republic of Washington to see what the DMV there says.

We will get this nut buster nutted one way or the other! Remember this car has actually been in my driveway. I have Seen The Elephant so to speak.

Cheers,

Dave

OK. Here is a scan of the certificate of destruction. It only has one side. And thanks to all who have offered to help me with this issue.
