Didn't mean to offend. It's just that the only road cars that I've seen them on, are honda civics. I can understand a track car, but a road car??

I keep one in all my vehicles as any car can catch on fire. I would hate to have one of my 928s burn to the ground for the lack of a twenty dollar exstiguisher. (Even if it does look rice.)

One day I was in a Napa parts store getting supplies for my cars, and had driven my 5sp in to town. While I was in the store someone came in and said, "There's a car on fire in the parking lot!" I almost died right there. I grabbed the stores fire exstinguisher next to the exit and out I went. Turns out was an old plymouth on fire not my 928. I put the fire out to the grateful thanks to the owner, and ungrateful thanks to the Napa store for using up there exstingusiher.

Here is another one like Gretch's:

The strap mounting point has been preserved, and the bracket fits under(behind) it. The trick is to get the strap point screwed in while using a "U" shaped aluminum base into which the FE bracket is screwed. The solution was to fit together two sections of angle aluminum channel and screw one in with the mounting point piece, and then screw the other angle to the first one. You will need an elf with small fingers, or a lot of swearing.

Bob's stuff at Stable Energies is really nice quality. I have known Bob for years and have his unit for the turbo. Never know when you may need one. His design moves with the seat, very convenient in an emergancey.

I just stick mine in the rear passenger seat well. One of these days I'll drill holes in the floor and mount one European style on the passenger floorboards.

You're kind of a load to have around.

A fire extinguisher attached to a metal mount is a requirement for PCA track events around here and I'm trying to get my car prepped for that. I will street it and do some DE and Autocross if I can get it fit to pass their inspection.

Thanks for the tip on the Stable Energies backet, Rob. Think I'll go that way.

B-K does not make a bracket that will fit an 86, apparently. i asked Jason at Paragon yesterday, he asked B-K, and the answer was "no dice".

I had a powder extinguisher on a metal mount by the hand brake.
One day about 2 years ago it decided to start turn itself on while I was driving (even though the start handle was closed and locked in place with a safety clip).
It covered me and the whole inside of the car with a one inch layer of white powder, for some strange reason I never recharged it and put it back in. I must still have the bracket somewhere.
Even now when doing odd jobs in teh car, I find little clumps of white powder.

Laurette at Stable will set you up with everything you need. I did need to replace the supplied 6mm mounting hardware with 5mm bolts. On the seats in my '87 the four holes used to mount the bracket that are normaly empty had some sort of black boxes mounted there that the 5mm bolts thread into, no problem I just used slightly longer 5mm bolts and it mounted up with no problem. I put mine on the drivers side, and although it's noticeable (touches the back of your leg) it's not annoying. I felt that if I really needed it there would be no way to reach it on the passenger side. As for the rice comment, the car is used for the occasional DE where an extinguisher is required in the upper run groups.

Default Fire Extinguisher

I have mine mounted to the driver's seat. It moves with the seat and is never in the way and always available. I've always had one in my cars and have used it three times. Once on my own car so don't say it can't happen. It's cheap insurance. Incidently go for the extra expense of a Halon bottle. The clean-up is non-existant (except for the fire damage) no powder to deal with. Also, I've heard that the powder is very corrosive (???) to electric contacts etc.

For PCA events, like DE, where you need a FE mounted to a metal surface will the mount by the emergency brake or behind the driver's seat pass inspection? Thanks.

I have the Halon myself, It robs the air of oxygen instead of smothering it with chemical. Although I have heard they were going to outlaw the Halon from PCA events, don't know for sure but I would check. I also believe the extenguisher must be a metal to metal mount and must be within reach of the driver.

Ban from PCA events? From Region, Zone or National, just curious if it was something a particular region was going to do or if National felt it somehow necesary.

I have powder extinguisher in the trunk area - not immediately to hand but I know where it is and its a tidy no see install from inside. If I do get out on the track I'm considering a seat mount halon or similar buit not sure I'd leave it in the front of the car at all times - Maybe another mount in the trunk for non race days - don't like to clutter up the interior too much and I do use the back for the kids.

I know some are concerned about the risk of projectile extinguishers in a crash but this is a very solid mount (agree still plastic) and I always have the cargo cover over it.

I'd be as worried about other stuff being transported and even the whole tool shelf detaching and raining wrenches etc. Works for me so far and since I'm prepared no fires!

Alan

PS I've always had an extinguisher in every car since 1989, even have 2 in my Expedition - biggie in the back and small one to hand. I also have 5 in my home so maybe I'm paranoid - but I don't care! I ready for my or anyones else's fire in car or otherwise...
